I am not happy with my veneers job. Can anyhting be corrected?

Besides a lot of pain that I went through and still experience, I think my smile was brighter before the veneers. They seem too yellow and my two front upper teeth seem darker than the others. I want to talk to my doctor but can anything be done to correct it?

Unfortunatly, they will just have to be redone. They really should have been tried in before being permanantly cemented. Anytime that we do a veneer case, we always explain to the patient that it may take multiple times to get it completely right. This means having them made by the lab, tried on for shape and shade, and if they are not what the patient likes, they are sent back to the lab to be modified.

I am really surprised that your dentist didn't try them in first. They make a special try-in paste, that will hold them on the teeth long enough for the patient to look in a mirror for awhile and decide what they don't like. He should have used this. We also make the patient approve them in writing before they are cemented, that way they can't come back later on and say they don't like them.

The pain you are talking about, is it sensitivity or actual throbbing pain?? Any time you touch a tooth with a drill and remove enamel, there is going to be some degree of discomfort. Sensitivity is normal for a period of time, but if it is lingering for weeks and not getting better, the veneers may not fit properly. They are supposed to fit like a puzzle piece, without any gaps. If there is a gap, that allows water and other things into it, causing sensitivity, and over time can allow decay to form.

I can't understand how the 2 centrals would be darker, as the porcelain should have been mixed at the same time on all of them.

I would definatly talk to your dentist, however I believe the only option is to start over and have new ones made.
Reply:well, did you pick out the shade with your dentist (consultation) before the veneers were cemented on?? If so, you can't do much....he may try and do something to make you happy, but its very doubtful....veneers can run up to 600$/tth..........
Reply:The veneers would need to be remade. The cost would be something you need to discuss with your general dentist. He may or may not give you a discount depending on if you approved of them from the beginning. Some offices will charge only the lab fee with his materials costs, but each office has different policies and you need to discuss this with them first. The work involved is more extensive because the cement used is a bonding cement and very difficult to remove once the veneers are placed. Also, you may be faced with having to remove a slight amount more of tooth under the cement which can in turn make those teeth more sensitive. He also may make you sign an agreement on the second set because if these are also not to your liking he is not and should not be held accountable.
Reply:I agree 100% with MK. I'm just reinforcing that answer.

I recently had a patient who chose the shade herself, but didn't like them once the venners came in. She was very blaise about it, too. Fortunately, my lab was very helpful about redoing the case and I was able to "reshade" at no cost to the patient. I did have her sign off on the shade the second time, too. Sometimes I do that the first time, but I happened to think she made a good choice and she was very sure that it was what she wanted. I didn't anticipate any trouble.

She did not have them bonded into place, as you have, though. You've got a lot of work ahead of you and a lot of time will be required in the chair. I would expect to pay an additional fee, especially if you gave the approval for them to be bonded in in the first place.
