Is $6600.00 too much for 6 veneers?

I live in south Jersey. Went to the dentist today and after taking impressions he believes he can give me the perfect smile with 6 veneers, or $6600.00. Is he robbing me? Please let me know

I'm a dentist.

First off, never trust any doctor who promises you a "perfect" anything. I never promise my patients perfection.

As far as the veneers go, the fee sounds about right--especially for your area.

What does concern me a tad, however, is how the doctor plans on giving you a "perfect" smile with only six veneers. In many cases, a veneer is needed on the first premolars as well, as these teeth tend to be quite visible in someone's smile. Unless, of course, your premolars are "perfect" just as they are.
Reply:Hello,

If you are unsure about a quote you recieved, the best thing to do is to well.. recieve another quote :) I'm sure there's another dentist/ortho in your area - the best thing you can do is ask one of them. You may also want to check if your dental insurance, assuming you have any, will cover them - sometimes they do. However, if I had to guess, I'd say that 6600 sounds about right. Dental work is very expensive, but it also differs depending on state and I have no idea how it's like in Jersery. Get another quote, you can even call another office and ask them.
Reply:I have two... I belive my dentist said that they were $850 each! But I live in Utah, so that cost may be different.
Reply:Just call another office and ask how much their veneers are. If the price is not hugely above the others do not worry. Depending upon the size of the practice and town the prices can vary greatly. Why do you want veneers anyways?
Reply:Holy Crap! I don't know about in Jersey, but we live in Kansas and my daughter is having six done for $45.00 each for the perfect smile! hmmmm. I think you could by a plane ticket for that! To add on: Oh, and if the dentist says that's his specialty, and other Dentist may be cheaper because they aren't as qualified, I would keep checking around, because I just called my dentist to double check, and this is what he specializes in. Prices are according to where you live, and apparently you live somewhere where the dentist think they are pretty d*** important!

Reply:STEVE,

YOU KNOW, DENTISTRY IS A SUBJECTIVE FIELD. THE THINGS YOU BUY ARE PRICED BY HOW MUCH YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR THEM. YOU CAN ALWAYS GET A CHEAPER QUOTE, BUT ARE THE VENEERS WORTH THAT MUCH TO YOU?
Reply:Sounds about right for that area, depending on the office and the area they normally go from 800 to as much as 1500. If you have the $$ to spend and really want to get a great smile go ahead and do it, veneers look great!
Reply:hey shel, contact me i would like to find that dentist. i live in KS also
