Dental Veneers??? Success/Horror stories......?

I am due to have 3 of my front teeth veneered in a few months as i have slight staining... and to be honest although i have wanted them for a long time and know they would look so much better, im really bricking it!! Has anyone had these done and how painful is it, honestly???

I have not had it done myself, but i see it done on a daily basis as i am a dental nurse.


There are 2 kinds of veneers, porcelain and composite!


Porcelain veneers require the dentist to take an impression of your teeth, this impression is then sent to an outside lab (my practice use an outside lab, others may have their own lab on site) the veneers are made and are fitted about a week and a half later.


The composite veneers are made chair side by the dentist (not sure if this is a common procedure in every surgery but my dentist makes his own), this simply requires the dentist to roughen the surface of the tooth, and then add composite material- this is the material used for white fillings, and hey presto you have lovely new veneers in about 45 minutes.


Either kind of veneer is equally as good as the other, the only advantage I'd say about the composites is, if you chip a piece off you only need to return to the surgery and the dentist can replace the chip there and then, with porcelain veneers you cant do that and the whole thing has to be remade!


Go for it, you have nothing to fear, it's painless and they look great.

Reply:I had just gotten my braces off a week before school started. Both of my two front teeth were chipped. So the first thing that the dentist did was put on a temp. bond. After two months we figured out that it was yellowing to quickly. So they said that I needed to get veneers. I was supposed to get them when I was 18 but I guess not. The process of putting them on was really quite easy and quick. It didn't hurt at all. Just be sure that when you get your mold mad and the color of them picked out that your teeth are the whitest that they can be. If they are when you get your color picked out for your veneers, they will pick a whiter color to match your teeth color. I hope my answer answers your question. Best of luck.

tough if i had them done now I'd ZOOM whiten my teeth first to match to whiter color
Reply:if that meens tooken out i had 4 tooken out so i wouldnt have to get braces and i seriously didnt feel anything
