Has anyone ever got bridges and veneers on their teeth?

I am 28 years old and I am afraid of getting the veneers because the teeth that I've got are not all that bad. I have very healthy teeth, but my two front teeth are spaced and I had two baby teeth that came out and left me with two big holes on my third spaces back on both sides. The holes from the baby teeth are for the bridges and I'm not worried about them, but do I risk the teeth that I've got now for the veneers?

Has anyone ever got bridges and veneers on their teeth?
Let's break this up into two sections:

(1) Veneers for front teeth. If you are very concerned about the spacing between your front teeth, then veneers are a good way to overcome this. If you have any doubts about having the treatment done, especially if they are good, unfilled teeth, then it seems a shame to treat teeth that may, essentially, not need treating.

(2) Bridges for the canine areas. The big question is do you have your adult canines still hiding in your jaw? If they are, you must speak to your dentist about wht you are to do with them. There is nothing more scary when a patient turn up with a new tooth arriving under a fixed bridge. If there are no canines, then you can move on to replacement. As for the bridge, if the teeth either side of the gap are unfiilled (virgin teeth), it seems a shame to cut into them to create bridge supports. If the gap is wide enough, then you may want to consider implant-supported replacements for the missing teeth. They may be more expensive, but they do not involve preparing adjacent teeth, are very long-lasting, and can be maintained much more easily than bridgework, which requires some fairly fancy flossing.

Hope you have some success, as your case is challenging. When it comes off, though, I think you'll look a million bucks!
Reply:I have 10 beautiful veneers across my upper anteriors and they are amazing! I love they way they look and feel and the colour was exactly what I wanted. They are a more conservative way to change your smile rather than doing full porcelain crowns. Your dentist will tell you if you are appropriate for veneers or not....

A question about veneers! What are they like?

I won't go into detail on why, but when I'm 17 I'm getting veneers. My questions is, what exactly is the process of getting it done? What does it feel like (And don't try to tone it down so I don't get 'scared' please :D )?

A question about veneers! What are they like?
veneers are half ceramic crowns. Why do you need it, did you chip your teeth or some thing?
Reply:hmm, expensive :)
Reply:Veneers are porcelain covers that go over the front of your existing teeth.

The downside is your teeth have to have the surface ground down slightly then an impression is taken and the veneers made to measure so they fit...this takes about a week so you have not the best looking teeth for that week.

Once they are fitted though they look pretty good.

My husband has two due to an accident in his youth that damaged the enamel on his natural teeth.....his first set lasted 10 years and only failed because he damaged one slightly and liquid was able to get behind the veneer and loosen the glue, so it came away.

They are bonded by some special adhesive that is activated by ultra-violet light that the dentist uses.

He simply had them both changed and carried on as before.

He tells me they felt strange for a few days, much like you do when you have a new filling but after that it seems like they always felt like that and everything is fine.

I guess it all depends why you are having them done....if you have damage then it's worth it as they do look better.

My husband looks fine and if you didn't know then you would never know.

When he damaged them he was just unlucky.....it could have happened to natural teeth surface or not at all.

Time right b4 veneers?

im looking into getting porcelain veeners, im reading that the dentist shaves off about a fingernail width of enamel, then you have to wait around 2 weeks to get the veneers on. what is that going to be like? what will it look like? has anyone done this? and does it hurt?

Time right b4 veneers?
Hi there,

Hope this info helps. From what I know, the amount of enamel that is shaved off really depends on your existing smile. However, a good cosmetic dentist will only remove the smallest amount necessary and there are other dental procedures that require a lot more. You'll most likely be given Novacain...just like any other standard dental procedure. As far as waiting two weeks: That's true. Although sometimes it can take less, it just depends on who your dentist works with. After your teeth are trimmed, the cosmetic dentist will have to make a mold of your existing smile and that will be sent to the lab....i'ts called a "wax up." Each veneer is then customized based on that replica and sent back for the final fitting. Depending on how extensive your case is, you may receive temporary veneers until your permanent veneers come back from the lab. If you don't have temporaries put on, you can expect your teeth to feel a bit rough but they usually don't look that different, but not enough to feel embarassed about. It's only two weeks, max. As far as how they'll look after they're done. Well, if you go to the right cosmetic dentist who understands your situation and what you're trying to improve, they'll look fantastic. You can choose the shade of the teeth (some people don't want tic-tac white teeth) and also discuss the exact shape and size of each tooth. You'll definitely want to have a consultation with a few COSMETIC dentists in your area as well. I'm not sure where you're located but the website below is super helpful...you can learn about some dentists in your area and arrange a consultation...most of them are complimentary. Good Luck!
Reply:You will leave the dental clinic with temporary veneers until you get your actual veneers.

3 cheers for veneers?

Gimme the quick know-how about veneers, what they cost, how do work, and all that jazz, por favor.

3 cheers for veneers?
You can visit the website below for information about Veneers.
Reply:3 thumbs down for vaneers and 3 thumbs up for crowns. The problem with vaneers if they don't last as long as crowns and lose their color overtime. I have heard of many people not liking them because they tend to turn yellow overtime where you can get a crown white and it stays white.

How much do veneers usually cost?

If you have 2 slighty crooked teeth do they have to correct that before putting veneers? Is there much pain after the surgery?

How much do veneers usually cost?
Traditional Porcelain Veneers typically cost between $900 - $2,500. per tooth and require two or more visits one to two weeks apart. Veneers made of porcelain provide a greater longevity than plastic, typically ten years to fifteen years or more.

Composite Veneers cost significantly less, around $250 per tooth or more, but only last from five to seven years typically.

Lumineer Porcelain Veneers typically cost between $700. - $1,000. per tooth and also require just two visits. Lumineers are expected to last as long as traditional porcelain veneers.

Generally speaking, the price of tooth veneers and whitening increases with the number of in-office treatments required by the patient. Dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of the tooth veneers procedure. Cost will vary depending on your region, the skill level of your Cosmetic Dentist and the quality of the lab they use.

There shouldn't be much pain. Involved.
Reply:veneers usually cost around Rs 6,000-10,000 per unit i.e per veneer. no there is no pain. getting veneers done is a painless procedure n its not a surgery.dont worry.

Crooked teeth and veneers??

Can veneers fix crooked teeth no matter how misagligned they are? Or can they only fix minor crookedness?

Crooked teeth and veneers??
Veneers can fix misaligned teeth, but the fix is not as permanent as having braces. Veneers are quicker, and may not be as expensive as braces in the short run. But most veneers will need to be replaced every 3-5 years; your teeth will be extremely sensitive when they begin to degrade and fall off; this makes them expensive in the long run because they will need to be replaced.
Reply:yes they can be fixed. its absolutely amazing what technology has enabled us to do these days.

Should i put dental crowns and veneers?

I had braces for a year and a half. Now my teeth are straight. Three of my upper front teeth are root canalled so they are discolored. Other teeth have fiilings. My dentist offered me to put crowns on 3 root canalled teeth, and put 3 veneers on close teeth so i have a perfect smile of 6 front upper teeth. My question is should i leave my ugly teeth and not to do anything or should i put cosmetic crowns and veneers??? A friend of mine said: It's always better to have your own teeth and not to have dentures by 40 y.o. Please tell me what to do....

Should i put dental crowns and veneers?
well if you can afford it...do it. You are probably talking 4 grand to do just what you are saying..minimum. More like 6 grand.
Reply:yeah go for it.

you'll be happy - and never think about it again
Reply:Absolutely do whatever makes you look your best. Nice white teeth and great smile are worth the $$$$
Reply:if you can afford to do it, go for it.

better to have nice looking teeth that you feel confident with i reckon.
Reply:your teeth should be fixed but be careful--mercury is controversial (you can read up online--the studies saying it is fine are funded by dentist) many getting the mercury removed by redoing the whole job, pain in the neck, so look into alternative things with a consultation--no hurry! you should feel good about the say you look. be sure the teeth are getting the medical care--and think before you act. lots of paths to take re dentistry, believe it or not, just like medicine.
Reply:You should try to avoid dentures at all costs if you can. However, getting crowns and veneers does not mean you'll have dentures. Crowns, if taken care of, and if you get the right kind (porcelain or gold) can last forever. Veneers can be replaced, but should last several years.
Reply:it is how you feel about yourself, do you feel confident when you smile? if not have your teeth done, the crowns don't discolor, and they will shine like like your smile with a bit more confident, good luck enjoy a good smile
Reply:At the very least, get the crowns on the teeth that have the root canals. This is very important since a tooth that has had a root canal will get brittle and possibly break to the point where you have to get it pulled. I know because this happened to me and I ended up having to get an dental implant in place of the tooth. It is more cost prohibitive and healthier to just get the crowns on. As for the veneers, you have to weigh the costs vs. the lifetime of the veneers. Some veneers need to be replaced in 10 or so years. Ask you dentist for a detailed account of treatment plan and cost, if and when he estimates you would need to have the veneers replaced, etc. This way you can make a clear, informed decision. Best of luck!!
Reply:Depends on how vain you are. To get crowns or veneers, they will have to remove part of your existing teeth so once you get this done, there's no going back to your real teeth. Gold crowns will cost a fortune but last 15-20 years if you don't bite on hard things that may damage them. Because they would be covering your existing teeth, you may feel more sensation (not always pleasant) when you take a bit of things or when you eat cold or hot things. They also sometimes come unglued from your tooth and you'll have to get the dentist to reglue them. Since it's a covering over existing teeth which have been compromised (to allow the crowns to be applied, the existing teeth need to be reduced and scuffed up) you can still get decay in your teeth which sometimes festers before it is discovered (and which could lead to serious excavation). And crowns have to be replaced eventually because they wear out, develop holes in them, crumple completely, etc. so you'd have to pay again for new ones (and go through the whole replacement stuff).

Veneers also entail a certain amount of tooth removal. They also can crack or chip and have to be replaced after about 5 years or so. Since they'd be front teeth, you'd have to be very careful about eating anything crusty or hard. Since your natural teeth will have been messed with, you may become sensitive to hot and cold foods/drink, may find biting down on hard things like crusty bread hurts, etc.

Do you need absolutely perfect teeth enough to set yourself up for a lifetime of extra tooth maintenance? Can the dentist do a teeth whitening ultraviolet thing on your teeth to brighten them up instead? Yea, your dentist is looking to make money and using your vanity to do it--so it's up to you. I prefer to have my own intact teeth as long as possible.

Unable to get veneers?

I was just wondering if there is ever a circumstance when a dental patient's teeth aren't compatible with veneers?

Unable to get veneers?
Yes

Who knows about veneers?

My teeth arent bad, but im thinking of just skipping the whole braces thing (they suck) and taking the easy way with veneers. Thing is, I dont care enough to pay huge sums of money, more of a convenience thing, really. Anyone familiar with average costs?

Who knows about veneers?
Veneers at $250 per tooth you can have all your visible teeth addressed for an esthetically improved smile!
Reply:It depends on where you get it done, but average cost is about $1,000 a tooth.
Reply:Veneers aren't necessarily the easy way. They have to grind your teeth down and they will be permanently altered so that you will have to wear veneers forever. Also, they usually only last about 10 years and then you'll hafta shell out another 8k or so to get them redone. I'd just get braces if I were you. Have you ever considered lingual braces?
Reply:here in oz dentist are absolute rip off merchants i would not even have clue but it would not be cheep and for something like that you could be waiting 7-10 years to get done unless you can afford private health insurance, but i also think the first answer is in the right ball pack as guessing goes

Bonding or porcelain veneers?

I am getting my braces off on the 12th and I was wondering what the better option would be since a few of my teeth are quite worn down from being crooked for so long. I know that in some cases bonding can last a very long time and sometimes it wont. I was very easy on my braces and never had anything break or come loose. I know that veneers might look slightly better but I dont know if that could be covered by insurance or not since it is cosmetic. Here is a picture of picture of my teeth with braces to get an idea of which option would be better. Thanks

Bonding or porcelain veneers?
I think your teeth look lovely just as they are.

Why go through all the trouble of having fixed braces on for years just to veneer them straight away afterwards. You could have done that at the beginning without doing bracework!

What do you mean by bonding?

I think you should leave them just the way they are. Any unnecessary work on your teeth will shorten their lifespan considerably. Plus veneers are quite destructive and they dont last forever!

Best to leave alone and be happy with nice white straight teeth
Reply:Your teeth look great!! Are you sure you need bonding or porcelain veneers. They look fine to me unless I just don't see it in the picture. Talk to your dentist to see if you need to have anything done and what would be the best option for you. Good luck!!

Tooth size with Veneers?

If I get veneers, will my teeth be the same shape and size after the procedure? Because I don't want them bigger or smaller. I just want them whiter. I don't want a repeat of Hilary Duff.

Tooth size with Veneers?
If you want them whiter, why not just have them bleached? That's much cheaper than veneers.
Reply:i agree, don't get veneers if you want them whiter because veneers have a life span of 15 years tops and after that you will need either new veneers or crowns. If your teeth are healthy otherwise, just have them whitened.
Reply:you should actually be able to choose from a variety of different smiles if your dentist has a copy of the LVI smile design book. if he doesn't have one then you might look at another dentist.

I just got veneers and have some questions on how to take care of them?

Hi, I just got my permanent veneers on Friday ( I love them) and I have some questions...

1. When I brush my teeth, do I need to be extra gentle?

2. Can I brush my gums?

3. Can I use listerine?

Thanks

Question about Composite veneers?

Hi

I am considering getting veneers, but they're really expensive. I heard you can get them made of resin plastic and that they are cheaper, like $250 per tooth. I am interested in them, but I was hoping I could get some feedback and or opinions on them.

Thank you

Also.. can you get them on your bottom teeth too?

Thanks

Question about Composite veneers?
I know that porcelain veneers can be put on top and bottom teeth. All that I could find on the Resin Veneers is that they are used on top of stainless steel caps for children, but there was no real help other than that they are less expensive. I'd call your dentist's office and ask them if the dentist used them and why or why not.

Good luck!
Reply:Ceramic veneers are much better, they are stronger and look more natural but as you said, they are a lot more expensive.

We have placed Composite veneers on patients at our practice, not very often though. They work fine, look good at the time. However they tend to stain around the margins after a while and arent as strong.

You can place veneers on your bottom teeth but as they are smaller, they are less successful and as most people dont show their bottom teeth when they smile, its not really worth it.

Good luck!
Reply:Not as nice.

Porcelain is closest to looking like enamel.

Composite veneers are hard for many dentists to do.

They loose their luster over time and will need polishing again.

My recommendation: don't do them. save up for porcelain veneers or get a payment plan.

keep smiling,

Do you have veneers?

I'm thinking about getting veneers, but I'm wondering if it is worth the money. I would like to know (FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEM) what they are like and your opinion of whether or not it was worth it. Also, what was the procedure like, how long did it take, etc...? THANKS!

Do you have veneers?
They are worth money so long as you find a good dentist to do them!

The impression was taken first then 2 weeks later they came back from the lab then the veneers were placed on which took 3 hours.
Reply:I work for a dental office and i wouldnt recommend getting them....The dentist has to do a lot of prep to ur natural tooth. They prepare the tooth (shave some of the natural tooth off) Take impressions, send it to the lab then get them back and get the custom veneers back and bond them to the teeth.....I would suggest gettin LUMINEERS ..same concept to veneers but way less prep to the teeth and the are contact thin on ur teeth. But all depends on the way ur teeth are now if they are able to do them..Here is a website on lumineers.Good Luck

Reply:A great website to research everything that goes on in the dental office that you can understand is www.simplestepsdental.com. I had the composite veneers (tooth colored filling material) that they just placed on top of my teeth. They worked fine but they always chipped; the composite wouldn't bond correctly because of my hypocalcification (bright white spots). I finally got veneers on 1 yr ago and love it. I would research...because once you drill on a tooth you can't go back.

The first visit should only be about 30 mins to take an impression. The prep appt could take about 30 minutes a tooth bacause they drill; impression and make temporaries. I don['t know how long a civilian dental laboratory takes but the mililtary laboratory takes about 4-6 wks to process the veneers. At the final appt may take about 15 mins a tooth to take off the temporaries and cement and adjust the veneers as needed. I assisted many appts like these in my USAF career.

Does Tricare cover Veneers?

I will be getting back from a deployment, and i have 90 days of Tricare benefits. Will they help pay for my Veneers? How about if I go to a VA clinic to get it done?

Does Tricare cover Veneers?
No, veneers are considered an optional cosmetic surgery and you'll have to pay for it out of pocket. The army will only pay for white fillings and things that they do themselves and thats usually handled under United Concordia, which is the dental plan (and has a monthly fee.)

Anyone had porcelain veneers? What do you think of what my dentist said about it?

Having kids wrecked my teeth. I have a space between them in two spots on the bottom where there was decalcification. I talked to my dentist about getting veneers and he said I would have to get them for 6 teeth on the bottom and 6 on the top in order for it to look right. I'm not sure if he's just trying to rip me off or what. I know it's about $1000 per tooth, in which case having that many done is out of the question. What do you think?

Anyone had porcelain veneers? What do you think of what my dentist said about it?
Over time, your natural teeth will stain and change color differently from veneers (veneers are glazed porcelain and will not change color or stain much over time). That is the reason why dentists recommend canine-to-canine if you want veneers, so all the teeth will have matching shades all the time.

You can compromise though.. Some people do have canines that are slightly different in shade than incisors without looking wierd, so maybe you can do just the incisors (4 on top and 4 on bottom). Optimum is definitely canine-to-canine though if you want that "Hollywood" look.

Hope this helps.
Reply:i agree that stain is a factor, also you want a good even normal bite for the upper teeth to rest of the lower to keep your mouth in a good healthy manor. also try finding a dentist who accepts care credit they offer 18 months interest free for anything over 300 hundred dollars. they do have a web site i believe it is carecredit.com this will help you to be able to afford such cosmetic advances with your mouth.

How do the veneers feel?

i understand they file your teeth when getting veneers. do they put the cap over your whole tooth or just in front it? does it feel like a real tooth and would anyone notice?

How do the veneers feel?
I believe veneers are just on the front because a crown is the term for a cap over the whole tooth. It's probably smoother than real teeth, but I don't think anybody would really notice unless they know you well or you get a color that doesn't match all your other teeth

B&Q Kitchen - faulty MDF doors (veneers peeling off) Taking them to Court?

I got a shaker kitchen from B%26amp;Q about 2 years ago. I had it fitted by builders. I noticed 6 mths after fitting that some of the veneers were bubbling (lifting off). he prob got worse and now most of the veneers on my doors are lifting off. Been writing to B%26amp;Q HQ quoting Sale of Goods Act and saying that the doors weren't fit for the purpose. B%26amp;Q have been really clever and tried avoiding answering anything properly. The kitchen is discontinued. Therefore I said that I wanted a different kitchen which I liked with side panels, plinths, pelmet and cornice. They agreed to this verbally and in writing as "we agree to the relevant parts". They sent someone to prepare an itinerary to order the items. Now not honouring what they have said and are trying to say that by referring to "relevant parts" they meant the doors and they keep on saying I only had a 1 yr g'tee. I am taking them to Court have I got a chance of winning? I have made notes of the phone calls as evidence. Pls HELP. Ta

B%26amp;Q Kitchen - faulty MDF doors (veneers peeling off) Taking them to Court?
You do have a chance of winning, courts usually tend to be on the side of the consumer when its so very clear like this that the consumer has been taken in by a slimy business. Call the Better Business Bureau to report them. Call your local Chamber of Commerce to report them. Tell everyone you know about what they've done.....its not slander nor libel when its your own true story. Keep up the good fight, they're hoping you get tired and back down and when they see you won't, they'll get their *** together. Also, call you local television stations and see if they have a Consumer Watch type of segment, we have that in my home town and its a good good thing that has helped many people!!! Good luck!!
Reply:The case is sub judice if papers have been served.
Reply:If you have relevant notes of your phone calls, and who you spoke with, as well as any relevent paperwork, such as bill of sale, guarantee, and any letters written to or from the company, you have a fairly solid case. The glitch in this whole thing, is that you don't know what a judge will do. He may (and I think should) find in your favor. If he does, he will cause a court order to be issued. If the company, does not comply with the court order, then they may be held in contempt. I would at this point do two things, 1. Never buy anything from this company again. 2. Advise anyone who will listen of what happened, and advise them not to purchase anything from this company. I had a problem with a company called Vtech, and even wrote to their CEO in Hong Kong. I never got any response, but I use this as an example of how I talk about companies who do not honor their agreements. Good luck in court.

I have had veneers on my top front 4 teeth for the past 14 years. I want them removed.?

After all these years I still can't get used to them. To me they look like falsers! Can my dentist remove them. They have recently gone private so would I have to pay and how much would it cost? Also, since the dentist removed the outer enamel on my teeth before he put the veneers on would they be ok?

I have had veneers on my top front 4 teeth for the past 14 years. I want them removed.?
i wouldn't have then removed as you said the dentist had to take some of the enamel away and by doing this the teeth will hurt you when you have them taken off. you can have new ones put on if they are that bad. if you do have then taken off then you will need white filling (comp) to go on the top and this is done by the dentist.

sometime the dentist can do a good job but only sometimes.

and if this is done the filling is more likely to break away and you will have to go up they some many times to have it repaired and this is don't good for your teeth!!!

things with veneers have got better now and they do look good but you are talk around about £200 for each one.

if it down to you but as a dental nurse you have to know that you are getting yourself in for.

you need to thing about the after care, cost. if it don't work then you are looking at doing more work and the more you do to a tooth the more likely that the tooth/ teeth will dice.

just go to a bar and get in a fight with biggest dude there and tell him to aim for your teeth.

Reply:Are these porcelain or composite? Once you have porcelain veneers you are pretty much stuck with them forever, as enamel is removed to make room for the porcelain. If composite is used [made in your mouth while you sit there] there's a possibility that the composite can be polished off and your natural tooth left. Ask your doc.
Reply:I had some veneers put on my front teeth 20 years ago and have just had them replaced (materials are much better and more realistic than they were then). If you had veneers done the front of your own teeth would have been scuffed up to accept the veneer. It wasn't hard getting my old ones off. My dentist made up some "test" teeth to make sure I was happy with the end result. He also said that if I wasn't happy we would have them re-done until I was. You will never be able to go back to your own teeth only but I'm sure a good dentist would make you feel more comfortable with your smile.
Reply:You could have the veneers replaced, with whiter, more attractive ones But unfortunately the teeth were prepared to fit the veneers so you cannot go back to the originl teeth

How much do Veneers cost? What are my other options?

My mother is apparently grossed out by my teeth. I'm 30 years old and she has not liked the looks of my teeth for the past 5 years (as she keeps reminding me how horrible they look). Today she offered to pay to have 6 veneers put on my front top teeth. 1st of all, it hurts my feelings because I recently sent her a picture of myself that I thought I looked very pretty in...and now I'm thinking she looked at it and just saw my ugly teeth. I am not uncomfortable with how my teeth look. They are not perfect. Slightly crooked and slightly stained, but nothing too unusual. Secondly, my mother is 65 years old and needs to be saving for her retirement. She is living on her single income and won't even fly down here to visit us in our new home because she doesn't have enough money. Third, aside from this issue, she is my best friend. She wants to know how much they cost and if there are any other affordable options to straighten and whiten. Thanks

How much do Veneers cost? What are my other options?
The decision on what to do should be made between you and the dentist. Your mother has already recommended a treatment option, but you have no diagnosis. A dentist needs to make a diagnosis on why your teeth have the appearance they do and then decide on the proper treatment. For example, someone who grinds is not a good candidate for veneers. Also, someone who has a lot of tooth decay is not a good candidate either. Plus, how are your gums. If you have gum disease veneers are not a good option. There are many treatment options, but only after proper diagnosis. If you're treated and everything is not taken into consideration through a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, you may be getting treatment that will not last long term.

Veneer: $950.00 a tooth

Full coverage porcelain crown: $925.00 a tooth

Zoom whitening: $595.00

I had to come back and add a comment after reading the second answer. There is no way that a porcelain veneer cost the same as filling a cavity. Not unless you are going to some back road, lost his license dentist. That is just crazy. That guy is talking about a composite veneer, which is not at all the same thing that I am talking about. Veneers are cosmetic. They are not cheap. I personally wouldn't want something that showed on the front of my face to be done cheaply. That is like getting a cheap nose job. Not a good idea.

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
Reply:I have one front tooth that needs a veneer on it. They last anywhere from 3 to 5 years. Costwise they are about the same as having a cavity filled. Its really easy to do ... painless and quick. They basically just glue the veneer to the tooth.

Maybe you should just get your teeth cleaned. That will remove stains also.

Jeez the previous poster said 950 for a veneer. I didn't get charged anywhere near that amount.
Reply:I had veneers on my bottom teeth about 5 years ago. They were not expensive. I actually need to have them replaced but they were not expensive and I liked the outcome very much.
Reply:That is very nice of your mother to offer to do that for you. But have you told her how you feel about your teeth?? Well going to the dentist for regular cleanings is good place to start. There are some things the dentist can do to help remove the stain also. There are a few different options to bleach your teeth also, there is laser bleaching, take home custom trays or crest white strips all those I would discuss with you dentist to find the best one for you. Veneers can cost anywhere from $700 - $1000 a piece depending on where you live. Also if your teeth are just slightly crooked you may be a good candidate for Invisalign braces. All things to discuss with your dentist and hygienist. Good luck.
Reply:First and foremost if you think you are beautiful that is what matters. With that if you have concerns about your teeth do this instead of Veneers. One you should have your teeth checked every 6 months. Lastly Braces and good cleaning will do wonders . the cleaning methods can range from bleaching, ultraviolet lighting and laser lighting. The laser is the best whitening method. So take care of your teeth brush after every meal and don't forget to floss choose the above because it is cheaper and voila you will have a smile of movie star
Reply:I was quoted nearly $1000, yes one thousand dollars PER TOOTH!!!!

Needless to say I have not had it done yet.
Reply:veneers can cost from 1500 on up. depends on the dentist you go to. but they are well worth it.

Can Porcelain Veneers correct a mildly gummy smile?

I had braces for three years. Now that I have had the braces off for a little while, I am starting to notice in pictures and when I smile that I have a little bit of a gummy smile. Especially when I am laughing. Because of that, I try not to smile real big. I just feel like my teeth are small.

I have heard of gum surgery to correct it, but I don't think it is that drastic enough for a surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew if Porcelain Veneers could correct a mildly gummy smile like mine? Please look at my photos. Thanks.

Can Porcelain Veneers correct a mildly gummy smile?
Check w/ your Dentist. Your gums may be inflamed (swollen, periodontal disease) only time, good brushing (not hard they will bleed) and flossing will help. Lots of people who get their braces off have problems w/ swollen gums. Its hard to get your teeth really clean w/ braces on.

PS nice looking smile. Your teeth are the right size.
Reply:oh i think you have lovely teeth,i would not change them,do you ever notice that some stars who have venners when they smile in pics you can also see there gums so i dont think it will correct it,your pic looks fine you have a really lovely smile xxx

Free tooth veneers?

I have hideous hideous teeth, but I couldn't afford veneers even if I worked 5 jobs. Anyone know how to find a dentist or organization willing to donate this dental work??

Free tooth veneers?
I'm sorry, but I highly doubt any dentist will donate veneers, since they are a costly and cosmetic procedure. You can probably get other treatments to help beautify your smile that are also less costly and less painful than veneers.

Best of luck to you.
Reply:Unfortunatly I doubt if any dentist will donate veneers. Depending on how "bad" your teeth are will depend on what they need. If they are just discolored or decayed. Veneers are simply a cosmetic procedure %26amp; not usually seen as "needed". Good luck =)

What are veneers?

What are veneers exactly? How long do they last?

What are veneers?
Veneers are covering which will cover your front teeth. This is possible because they shave your teeth down small and place the veneers over them(like getting a permanent gold tooth). People get veneers when they have very small teeth, or lots of spaces, and aren't interested in braces, or sometimes, to get a bigger brighter smile. Veneers are pretty, but if you want them to last long you have to take good care of them. Veneers are extremely sensitive, they can not withstand the normal hardships as a normal healthy tooth. You must avoid biting your nails(or other hard objects such as pins and ice, etc), grinding your teeth, and avoid staining influences, such as teas, coffee, tobacco products, etc) and if you do these things most veneers will last atleast 10years.
Reply:Veeneers are thin, custom made molding that covers the fronts of teeth, think of them as fake finger nails for real nails.
Reply:House or building facing materials. Duh...

Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?

Hello

I'm making an appointment to get porcelain veneers on my top 6 teeth in a couple of weeks. My dentist charges $650 per tooth. I want them whiter and slightly reshaped. Now, my question is... I want to get the lightest shade possible, but will it look fake?

Getting porcelain veneers and have some questions?
The lighter shades are the "in" thing and depending on who is looking at them you will get various opinions. In the dental professional world too white teeth look like piano keys and are very obvious that they are not natural, but people today believe the whiter the better. Look at Regis Philbin of "Who wants to be a Millionaire". His dental work is off-the-scale white, and most people think that is appealing.

What really matters is what you think, and if you like them because you are going to be wearing them (hopefully) for a long time to come.

Some words of advice....Make sure you keep and them very clean and floss daily. You do not want cavities at the juncture point, if you notice the floss catching make sure your dentist checks that area thoroughly. If your teeth are crowded or if you have a history of periodontal (gum) disease veneer should not be an option, they become plaque traps and will cause further problems.

Best of luck
Reply:In order for your veneers to look like natural teeth you really shouldn't venture to far away from the color of your bottom teeth. Even though when we smile our bottom teeth aren't as noticeable as our top teeth when we speak or make facial expressions they are. Look in a mirror and talk, laugh, smile, and make faces and you will see how much of your bottom teeth show.
Reply:Tell your dentist you want to see what the shade B2 looks like with your lower anterior teeth, that is the lightest shade from a normal shade guide. Anything lighter would be a "bleach" shade and that could end up looking fake.

Also, I really reccomend whitening your teeth with in office whitening or even just crest white strips to lighten those lower teeth and upper posteriors before you pick the shade for your new veneers.
Reply:THE DENTIST WILL BASE THE SHADE ON WHAT'S KNOWN AS THE VITA SHADE GUIDE. THE LIGHTEST CHOICE IS B-1.

THERE IS A SCIENCE TO OBTAINING SHADES AND THE REASON YOU DON'T WANT LIGHTER SHADES IS BECAUSE IT WILL NOT MATCH THE REST OF YOUR TEETH IN COLOR.

MY SUGGESTION IS THAT YOU HAVE ALL YOUR TEETH WHITENED BEFORE YOU HAVE THE FINAL SHADE CHOSEN. YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO BE 40 YEARS OLD WITH THE SHADE OF A TEENS BLEACHED TEETH.

AS A DENTIST I CAN ALWAYS TELL WHICH ADULTS HAVE HAD THEIR TEETH BLEACHED.

YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANT A SMILE WHERE YOUR TEETH LOOK FAKE.

Crowns and Veneers?

whats the average price for veneers and crowns done private and nhs?

Crowns and Veneers?
On the nhs there is a set fee of about £190 it doesn't matter if you need one, five or twenty it's still the same price, but you have to need them you can't have them on the nhs just for cosmetic reasons. Privately it depend's on the dental practice but i'd say they range from about £400 each, depending on what type you want there is no set price for private treatment and it is set individually by each practice. You would have to phone your practice to find out their private prices.
Reply:i just seen on the news that each veneer can cost between $800 and $1000. to costly for me. goodluck.
Reply:I saw someone on TV have a full set of upper veneers for £15,000.

I'd love to have it done, but I would be saving for years.

Am getting Veneers?

Am getting 6 veneers in the front teeth soon. Is it sore getting them done??

Am getting Veneers?
If you do not NEED them - due to damage from an accident or something, do not get them. It is the latest thing to part you with your money when there is no medical reason to. They will have to grind the enamel down some on your teeth to apply them. Losing enamel causes sensitive teeth. And although they say a "good set" will last up to 12 years before they have to be replaced, I know people whose veneers fall off every couple of years. Then there is the expense of replacement.

If you really just want straight teeth, get good old-fashioned braces or the new invisalign.
Reply:Lucky you! Wish I could. I want lumineers porcelain veneers.
Reply:My wife got a few replacement/veneers and she was in pain for about two weeks. About a year later, she started feeling pain below her nose, deep in the roots of where here incisors used to be. It is becoming unbearable, so she is going to see someone tomorrow.

I hear alot about dentists telling people that "these teeth are really bad, we're going to replace them / add veneers". That's what her dentist said, so she just ceded to his authority. They are just trying to get practice, make money, or both.

If you do it, just make sure that you actually want the work done and realize that you can't get back your natural teeth. If you foresee not having insurance or a job down the light, be financially braced for a major cost if something goes wrong down the line- which it often does. Good luck.
Reply:Sometimes they do hurt. My mom got them, and was in pain for about 1.5 weeks. Idk though, she has reallly sensitive teeth.
Reply:i had mine done 7 years ago... it is no worse than having a crown, even less so. Veneers are much thinner than crowns, which means that dentist takes less of the tooth structure off, less trauma for the tooth, faster healing.

The only difference that i feel now is that they are not as sharp as real teeth are. So if you a nail-biter you'll have to quit :)

you'll love them!
Reply:I had one tooth at the front done, it did not hurt at all.

After having veneers done on my front teeth I still have a lot of pain and discomfort. Is this temporary?

The veneers were done 2.5 month ago and covered 6 upper and 6 lower front teeth. The whole procedure was extremely unpleasant, most of my teeth were shaved off (dentist said it had to be done because I had too many fillings), and I've had a lot of pain and sensitivity to air, cold and hot ever since. It's gotten little better but I am still not able to bite into anything hard or even a fruit without pain or discomfort. I wonder if my teeth were permanently damaged.

After having veneers done on my front teeth I still have a lot of pain and discomfort. Is this temporary?
it is sensitive because the doctor probably "shaved" the tooth down to the dentin (inner part of tooth) which is very sensitive to tempature. Unfortanately this may or may not go away in time. You may need further treatment if this lasts longer than 6 months.
Reply:Well to start with, I tell all veneer patients that they are no longer allowed to "bite" into hard foods or bite into and pull or tear which will torque the teeth causing the veneer to break or pop off. Veneers are nice but very fragile and should be treated as such.

To answer your question regarding the sensitivity, some patients have a slight sensitivity for a few days or even a few weeks. The sensitivity, as you have described, is not normal and would lead me to think you have fractured a veneer, they were not seated correctly, or the teeth just haven't recovered from the work. They may need something as simple as a fluoride treatment or a desensitizer placed on them to end your discomfort. You will need to return to your dentist so they can determine what treatment would be best for your particular problem.

Additional information: Any time veneers are done it requires some of the enamel to be removed from the front, sides and the incical edge. You have to "remove something" so that the veneer can be made to "replace what was removed," being the "same size and shape" as what your natural teeth were or should be once corrected.

Crowns vs. Veneers?

Both of my front teeth are half fake. I have gotten caps for the past ten years, but they are fragile and I want a more long term solution. What is the difference between crowns and veneers? What should I get, I have insurance so cost isn't a major factor.

Crowns vs. Veneers?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth – covering the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and/or to improve its appearance.

The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

If I were you, I would get veneers because it is your front teeth and crowns are mainly for your molars. veneers look a lot better. Trust me.
Reply:Insurance won't pay for veneers.
Reply:Ok I too have the same thing. I broke off half of both of my front teeth in an accident and have them bonded over the years and too they are fragile and tend to chip. I talked to several good dentists over the years and they all suggest getting crowns.

Vaneers are wafer thin and more fragile and tend to stain. I don't care what other people say crowns are so much better long term and you will be happy with the results versus the vaneers. I know crowns often take off more tooth surface, but at this point it isn't gonna matter because half you surface is fake anyways.

When I have the money I am gonna get all my front teeth capped and he is gonna shape them to make them look straight and all white. Just make sure you get a good cosmetic dentist. I had one dentist that did a horrible job on one of my crowns in the back and I know have to have it redone by another. Not fun!

Are porcelin veneers good?

My teeth are chipped, discolored and they just look bad. I never smile or talk just because I don't want to show my teeth. Are porcelin veneers good for solving that problem? About how much would it cost to have that done?

Are porcelin veneers good?
No one should feel embarrassed to smile and I'm sorry that you feel this way.

Porcelain veneers are like a "false fingernail" that is bonded or glued to your tooth. They can give the illusion and appearance of straighter teeth, they can also lengthen the tooth.

They are made from porcelain, so the colour that you chose, is the colour they will be. A suggestion, if you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth now, I would recommend "whiting" your teeth before this procedure. That way, when the colour is chosen, the your teeth will look fantastic.

The procedure is to polish a finishing line along the gumline, still in the enamel and an impression is taken so that the veneer can be made.

When the dentist cements the veneer, he/she should give you a mirror so that you can have a look at the appearance before the veneer is cemented. This procedure costs vary from $800 to $1300 per tooth. But remember, these are glued onto your tooth and you need to maintain them. Tearing into plastic bags, biting tablets or finger nails could chip the procelain - as it would your natural teeth.

Have a talk with your dentist as porcelain veneers may not be the option for you. You could consider bonded composite veneers, which are done in the chair and these are bonded directly onto your tooth. These are less expensive and you can still get fantastic results. The disadvantage is they do stain over a period of time and you are limited to shades of the composite. These costs vary from $250 to $450.

Good luck with your decision.

Glad to be of help.
Reply:veneers will give you a new smile so yes they are very good I'm not sure how much it will cost because you didn't say what area you lived in but if you have insurance they will cover them
Reply:Yes the are very good. But the cost of them is now much much of them you need (bottom) is 10,000 and top and bottom is 20,000 , I hope this helps you .
Reply:Pocelain venners are probably your best bet. There are 2 different options though one is a porcelain jacket the other is a laminate. Ask your dentist which will be better but from what you have told me I am guessing that a laminate is what you need and want. They are like a shell that go on top of your regular teeth. The dentist will match the shade of you other teeth so that these teeth look nice and natural in your mouth. Your teeth might need some prepping but that is no big deal. I chipped my 2 front teeth when I was 8 yrs old and I have had laminates ever since ( i am 24 now)

The cost will vary depending on where you live but check with a couple dentists in your area and you will get a good estimate on how much it will cost you. Also see if your insurance will cover some or all of the cost.
Reply:Porcelain veneers are very good if you can afford out of pocket here as insurance will not cover. Or just in about two weeks you can have your self esteem restored in India or Thailand or Dubai. Look for your Hollywood dream smile in India or elsewhere of choice.

Has any one had porcelain veneers put in? does it hurt to get done? Have you had any problems or complications

I am thinking of getting veneers done, I am really excited about the possiblility but I have no idea what it will be like. If you have had this done, I want to know your experiance, if it hurt, if you had complications, or what you hate about having veneers, it's odvious what the pro's are, thanks in advance!

Has any one had porcelain veneers put in? does it hurt to get done? Have you had any problems or complications
I'm on my second set --upper and lower. They cost a fortune but THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY. It takes a while to trust them-- you feel they will damage but once you're used to t hem they are part of you. I would not have spent the money a second time if I hadn't trusted them, You get about 5 years with them before they need to be replaced

But maybe you will have longer --It depends if you eat hard foods I suppose.

It does do not hurt to have them applied-- just hand clutchy!!!!!!!!
Reply:My husband has them and other than being very expensive, likes them. The problem is that if you get cavities in these teeth, the dentist will tell you that they probably will crack your beautiful veneers and insurance doesn't usually pay for replacements, which is what we are finding out after 5 years.
Reply:Veneers done right are a work of art. You can chip them easy- no more hard candy, chewing on pins, they are super simple to do, Make sure you like the shade and shape of them take a friend you trust with you or just ask ofr a mirror before they glue them on. They are really like a fake finger nail, but made for the tooth. Do not leave the chair without loving them. Let him know immediately if you don't like something. They are expensive.

Question about Veneers?

Do you have to have good teeth to get them?

I have alot of fillings that I need to get and I was wondering if I just got veneers if that would also fix my problems with my teeth?

Question about Veneers?
The answer given by Laney is so inaccurate it is laughable...

I am a dentist. Decay always needs to be removed first and restored with a filling, or if very large, a crown. A veneer will only cover the front part of the tooth. Some veneers can be done without any tooth preparation (Lumineers), but many times the front part of the tooth is shaved down. A crown requires the tooth to be prepared much more agressively, all around. I have additional info on my website: www.newtowndental.com, or you can go to www.ada.org.

Good luck
Reply:When you get veneers they saw your teeth down to little niblets so no it wouldn't interfere because the part that is unhealthy will be saw'd off.

Dr. Harris that's what they show on extreme make over that they saw the entire tooth down to a nub, so why would you bother to repair if your just gonna saw the sucker's down?
Reply:What Dr. Harry said is right. You'll have to fix the cavities first. I have veneers and they fix chipped, discolored, gapped, teeth. But not the ideal option to fix cavites. They also have white fillings for cavities if you are concerned about how it silver ones look. Veneers can range from $500-$1500 each, depending on where you are. And they are cosmetic. I would fix those cavities first before they get any bigger. Good luck!

Pricing of veneers in uk?
this is what I have found so far!

average price of a veneer in England is £500

another site says this!

Porcelain veneers, or dental porcelain laminates, are wafer-thin shells of porcelain which are bonded (glued) onto the front side of teeth so to make a cosmetic improvement in their appearance.

For example in the case of really skewed and irregular teeth.

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to idealize teeth that are discoloured, worn, chipped, or misaligned and they create a very life-like tooth appearance.

You might be surprised to learn that while a major component of teeth is enamel, it is not solid enamel. The enamel component of a tooth is actually only an outer shell.

Porcelain veneers resist staining.

Cosmetic dental bonding materials utilized in the past had the shortcoming of being susceptible to staining and discolouring. This was especially a problem for those people whose teeth had excessive exposure to tea, coffee, red wine, or cigarette smoking. A significant advantage of porcelain veneers over other types of cosmetic dental bonding is related to the fact that a porcelain veneer's surface is just that, porcelain. Since porcelain is a ceramic, and therefore glass-like, its surface is extremely smooth and impervious. This means that the surface of a porcelain veneer will not pick up permanent stains

[ --- but they might crack --pete]

Time needed: at least 3 sessions.

Day one filing of teeth and cast taking.

3 to 4 days to get the veneers made by the lab.

Day two and Day three veneers are fitted.

So after day one, one could go and visit Prague and come back 4 days later or even a week later to get the last two sessions done.

ok. real veneers cost like $1000 for each tooth. they are also porcelain. veneers chip a lot easier and you get cavities easier. it's bad for ur teeth in the long run, cuz they need to shave part of ur tooth away to put the veneer on.

$100?!?!?! don't get them! you'll regret it!!!! you'll get food stuck in them and it's uncomfortable and a SALON? the dentist!!!!

Plastic Tooth Veneers - does anyone know about these?
Plastic veneers are simply composite veneer (tooth colored filling).

Those are cheaper, but less esthetic than a porcelain veneer. The color may change over time, like a normal filling; but its more conservative on the tooth structure than most procelain veneers.
Reply:nope, I've only ever heard of the porcelain ones

Can porcelain veneers increase the size of your teeth?

I have relatively small teeth and I was wondering whether or not porcelain veneers can increase their size as well as change the shape.

Can porcelain veneers increase the size of your teeth?
Yes, no problem. That is a problem most veneer patients wish they had.
Reply:yes they can its a cap that gets glued to your teeth. but why would you want bigger teeth or are you worried they will be bigger. if they are done right you will never know that you have them
Reply:yes. they can change the size, shape, and color of your teeth. but there are side effect and problems with them. they are harder to keep clean then natural teeth and can pop off. plus they dont last forever and will have to be replaced about every 10 to 15 years.
Reply:yes they can...but only if there is enough space to allow this "enlarging" (for lack of a better word, lol) to occur.

Does anyone know how much veneers cost?

My teeth are less then perfect, i know that braces would cost less, but even after their off, I still don't think I would like them. So, are veneers worth getting, even though their so expensive? Does anyone have veneers, and if so, are you happy with them? Pros and cons, please. Thanks.

Does anyone know how much veneers cost?
In northeast Ohio they cost @ $800-1000. Definitely get a good referral from someone you trust or has had this kind of work done. Ask the dentist you choose to see before and after pictures of other patients. Many dentists have these kind of books. It is true that your natural teeth are shaped and once you have a veneer placed you will always need to have a veneer or crown on the tooth. You should consider the cost of eventual replacement. They definitely can improve your smile and look beautiful if done correctly. I would get an opinion of an orthodontist before deciding though. Try and be very clear as to what you dislike about your smile now. It may be that with braces and possibly bleaching, simple bonding, or even some "reshaping" of your teeth you may be very happy. Good luck in whatever you decide.
Reply:really good veneers cost about 600 a tooth.

i would go to dentist and see if they can saw them down and whiteen them they can also put this stuff in between ur teeth that will make ur teeth look closer togather im not really sure what they are called but u can ask the den. and they will be cheaper

oh yeah and yes they are worth getting ur teeth look beautiful afterwards.
Reply:if you want them done right they are like $150 a tooth
Reply:I saw a thing on a news type program last night, they said that they cost about $2000+ per tooth, and they must be replaced every few years. Once you get them you always have to have them because they grind down your real teeth to attach the veneers to them. and every time you have them replaced they grind off more of your tooth!

Not to mention the bad stuff that could happen if they are not done correctly! I was thinking about it too, until I saw that show! Now I think that I will just deal with what god gave me!!!

I don't think that the pain is worth it. I have a friend who has one and she has had to have that one tooth replaced 2 times in the last 4 yrs.

Question about Veneers?

I had braces for three years. Now that I have had the braces off for a little while, I am starting to notice in pictures and when I smile that I have a little bit of a gummy smile. Especially when I am laughing. Because of that, I try not to smile real big. I just feel like my teeth are small.

I have heard of gum surgery to correct it, but I don't think it is that drastic enough for a surgery. I was wondering if anyone knew if Porcelain Veneers could correct a mildly gummy smile like mine? Please look at my photos. Thanks.

Question about Veneers?
I am a dentist and I looked at your pictures. Your situation cannot be corrected by veneers. Veneers correct teeth not the gums. It does appear that you have slightly too much gum tissue at the apex of your teeth. There are two ways to correct your appearance: The very best way would be to do what is called crown lengthening to raise the gum tissue by a few millimeters. This is very painless if done with a laser or electrosurge. This is usually done by a periodontist or a cosmetic dentist, make sure you get recommendations there are a lot of bad ones like any profession. The second way to fix your smile is by doing a lip drop procedure. This is a simple tissue removal under your upper lip. this lowers your lip when you smile so it no longer shows your excess gum tissue above your teeth. My preference is the crown lengthening because It will make your teeth look better by removing excess tissue, it will be less painful and usually almost pain free. Your teeth are fine, no veneers needed.
Reply:It appears you just have a small upper lip is all..........If it really bothers you try some of that lipstick that plumps up your lips but just use it on the top one..........Personally I wouldn't recommend going as far as to alter your gums.........and I believe even with veneers you'd still show the same amount of gum line (which isn't anything to be ashamed of) anyway.....you would just have bigger teeth is all.

Just be glad your teeth are straight........I hope this helps.

Oh yeah, once you get veneers you can't just take them off because your real teeth get filed in a very freaky way.......no matter if your teeth are straight or not.........and you have to pay thousands to replace down the road. Good luck.
Reply:I have veneers, but I didn't get them because I didn't like my gums, I gotthem as they were one of my few options after suffering from fluorisis which left my teeth incredibly week.

They look amazing, they look natural aswell. But they're pricey.

I've had 6, that was about £4000.

I think that You don't need veneers and there isn't even that much gum. As the person before my said, maybe get some plumping gloss or lipstick, you have a great set of teeth.

If I got to put veneers on my teeth, does it mean that I have to whiten them before placing the white veneers?

teeth is not as white as the white veneers

If I got to put veneers on my teeth, does it mean that I have to whiten them before placing the white veneers?
no.. they go over your teeth, most are porcelin.. you wouldnt even see your tooth.

- oh okay i understand what you mean now - usually the dentist will try to match your veneers to the rest of your teeth so they fit in, but if this wasnt what you were expecting then you can ask about getting your teeth whitened before the veneers are made.

I have veneers on four top teeth, my dentist want to put braces on?

top and bottom teeth. What effect will braces have on the veneers?

I have veneers on four top teeth, my dentist want to put braces on?
The brackets will be bonded to the veneers. The potential problem is going to be when they remove the bracket. It could possibly break the veneer.

Are Porcelain Veneers a good idea?

I've been wanting porcelain veneers for quite a while now, and I've done quite a bit of research on them, short of talking to a cosmetic dentist. I do not know any person that has had the procedure and am still curious. Do any of you out there have them and, if so, are they a good choice? Is it worth the cost, or worth the fact that it is an irreversibe process? Any input is greatly appreciated...thanks.

Are Porcelain Veneers a good idea?
if you are really not happy with your teeth, then go for it. i think that anything that makes you feel better about yourself is worth it. as long as you have researched it and still want it, go for it. i wouldn't worry about the irreversibility of it. i have also researched it, and it doesn't seem like anything can really go wrong.

They were definitely sparkling...and expensive.

What do you think about Veneers??

My anterior teeth are severly discolored, because i had braces on for more than 5 years.. And they have multiple restorations .. I really hate how they look like .. And since i am a dental student, i'd like my teeth to look nice.. So i'm thinking about doing veneers.. But i am worried about the complications .. are there any? Do you think i should have veneers? Do you have any other solutions??

Thanks in advance..

What do you think about Veneers??
i would love to get them myself, my teeth are just fine, but they can always be better! i just wish they weren't so expensive. i don't even know how much they cost, i've just been told they're REALLY expensive! by the way, if you know the cost could you please add that in your additional information for your question please. ;)
Reply:i think veneers rock..i want some someday..they make your teeth look real good..go for it
Reply:i have wanted to do veneers for my entire life!!!!! i have a discolored teeth due to flourosis.....i have done the research and in my opinion they outweigh the risks, but the cost is OUTRAGOUS!!!!!! I have dental insurance and it will cost over $7000........I hope yours is cheaper.....and remember that you might have to replace one every so often....
Reply:Brother, go ask one of the restorative faculty at your school. You can get them done there cheaper (and better) than anywhere else. The major drawback is the fact that you'd be preparing the teeth and removing tooth structure. The more discolored they are, the more tooth structure needs to be removed. Find out who teaches your esthetic course(s) and ask him/her if they'd do veneers for you or if they can recommend a student who could do it. Students got veneers all the time at my school and usually the faculty did them all.

Seriously go talk to your faculty. They'll know more than people on Yahoo.
Reply:get them. most importantly, find a dentist who uses arrowhead dental laboratory in sandy, utah to do them. these guys make the cases i do look so freakin good it's unbelievable. they charge $300 a unit for the lab bill rather than $100 like most but the upcharge is worth it. yes, that means $1000 a tooth.

one piece of advice is not to let the faculty do them. if they screw it up, are you comfortable with giving them a hard time until they fix it? go to a cosmetic guy and pay full fare and i promise that you won't regret it. and please don't just get 6 teeth done. you really need to do #s 4-13 to make it look right.

800 800 7200 is arrowhead's number to find one of their dentists in your area.
Reply:As with any dental restoration, a qualified dentist should make the determination. As a future dentist, you have an excellent system of support and information to help you decide which, if any restorations are right for you.
Reply:the fees are exorbitant and my understanding is that their life expectancy is about 10 years.....then what? you have to have them replaced. so more loss of tooth and more $$$$
Reply:well i don htink so dere is any complication asociatedwid veneering,,u can always go for it,,,only thing is be pepared to gt ur teeth prepared ,,as it will lead to losening of toth structure...and den da dentist will do veneering...with composite..r watevre material u say...if u happy wid da cost go ahaed..

Baces or Veneers?(pictures included)?
go for braces. veneers-- they are about $1500 per tooth and they have to file down each tooth to a pencil point and i heard it hurts bad and braces are about the cost it takes to do 1 or 2 teeth with veneers so id go for braces--and braces don't hurt that bad everyone always over dramatizes it so no worries!! and you have to buy new veneers and replace them every 10 years!!
Reply:You have really pretty teeth! You should just get braces, veneers are so expensive, and not necessarily life-long lasting like braces are.
Reply:hi dear. dont be disheartened. u have a posterior open bite so braces is a must for you for the bite correction. u will have to see an orthodontist for the same. he will then correct your profile also and then after this you can go for vaneers on your antrior teeth. only two of them will require a vaneer in case you find them esthetically very unpleasing. believe me they wont look that bad.
Reply:veneers are *** expensive, if i were you i'd go with the braces, they'll work fine. if you want a better comparison, you should make an appointment with your normal dentist.
Reply:go 4 braces

youre teeth are'nt even that bad. if you get veneers it's gunna cost a lot of money so i would stick to braces.

Can getting veneers re-done multiple times in a few years ruin your teeth?

I'm worried about becoming the Michael Jackson of teeth here, but my dentist put veneers in that completely don't match the colour of the rest of my teeth, particularly in photos. I know it is difficult to match the colour, so i'm hoping to get more of them done at the same time this time, I just don't want to ruin my 2 front teeth. Does anyone know if there is extra risk associated with having them re-done (now this being the 2nd time they are re-done since the first time he didn't seal them properly and they started to gray at the edges)? I am definitely getting a better dentist this time... what a pain in the A$$.

Can getting veneers re-done multiple times in a few years ruin your teeth?
Not only on the Dentist side are the hard to do, but also the lab side. No problems for your teeth if you keep getting them re-done. Where the tooth shades that far off? If not the Dr. or the lab could of applied some stain to better cature your tooth colour. Good Luck (hopefully for the last time.)
Reply:Veneers are hard to do. They were oversold to the profession as Lee press on nails but they are much harder to master. So the best dentist to choose are the ones who are doing a lot of them and have a lot of post graduate education in the field. You can replace them for all long as you can afford them. However, if they were originally properly prepared, then you will always need veneers or crowns.

Will porcelain veneers stain with coffee, tea, ciggaretts and root beer?

I am not a candidate for bleaching for many reasons. I need to know if porcelain veneers ( a huge investment) can stand the test of time and continue to be white and stain free while still smoking and drinking coffee and tea.

Will porcelain veneers stain with coffee, tea, ciggaretts and root beer?
No, porcelain veneers will not change color. The color you and your dentist choose will be the color of your veneers forever. You're investing a large sum of money into your mouth and you need protect that investment. If you smoke and drink a lot of coffee you may get slight surface staining, but that can easily be removed with regular cleanings from your hygienist. As for longevity, you should be a little more careful about eating certain foods. Don't crack sunflower seeds or rip beef jerky with your veneers. If something does break or crack most dentists and their labs will give a 5 year warranty.
Reply:From what I understand, yes.
Reply:Yes, eventually they will stain- not to mention- they are all things your body will do well without!

You will pay for them in no time with all of the money you will save from not buying cancer sticks anymore!!

Good luck!
Reply:Yes, but it brushes away. You may have to spend a little time brushing. And if you can't do it, your dentist or dental hygienist can.

For investment purposes figure a life of 20 years.
Reply:no they don't stain the composite laminates stain and porcelain chips easily
Reply:YES porcelain veneers will stain. Brushing 3 times a day will help. Also try drinking through a straw, it may sound silly to drink coffee through a straw but it helps. Regular 6 month cleaning appointments will help keep your veneers looking good.
Reply:The answer is no. Veneers when properly glazed will not stain.

WHAT ARE VENEERS for your teeth?

what are veneers i heard they are like retainers what r they?

WHAT ARE VENEERS for your teeth?
They cover the front of your teeth! I think!
Reply:Veneers are thin porcelain shells that cover the fronts of your teeth, basically. Tthey are not like retainers at all.
Reply:Veneers are like false 'fingernails' for your teeth.

Should I get Dental Veneers for 2 missing teeth and crooked teeth?

I was thinking of getting veneers for my upper teeth. The thing is, I am missing total of 3 teeth and my teeth are very crooked.. so much that even though I have 3 missing teeth you cannot tell because they moved into the places of the missing teeth (I had tooth crowding before). My dentist told me I need braces, and then once space is made where my teeth are missing I will need dental implants.

But I thought that maybe just skipping the braces part and getting veneers would solve this faster .... can someone help me out on this. Will this work?

Should I get Dental Veneers for 2 missing teeth and crooked teeth?
go for the braces. it will make you feel a lot better about your teeth. and you will have your natural teeth instead of fake ones.

faster isnt always better. veneers are only a temporary fix, they will break eventually, and you'll have to pay for new ones. whereas teeth last a lifetime. do the braces
Reply:yes, it may be more expensive and take less time. but it is totally up to you.

Does anyone know if veneers will actually straighten my teeth?

I had braces for three years. After I got them off I was pretty good about wearing my retainer. However, slowly but surely I kept for getting to put it in and eventually stopped. My mom would get mad that my teeth were getting crooked again (understandably, of course) and I would put them in. This would go on for like a week, but my teeth never got any better, that, and the pain was unreal. I've seen on tv that veneers can straighten out your teeth. I have one tooth on the bottom that sticks out of row, kind of like crowding, and my two front teeth are a little crooked, other than that, it is alright. I am very conscious about them though and was wondering if this would work. It would be senseless to get braces again because I would be stuck in the same situation that I'm in right now.

Also, if the veneers wouldn't help, do you think having my wisdom teeth pulled would help with the crowding?

Thanks!

Does anyone know if veneers will actually straighten my teeth?
Well it depends on how they protrude in your bite. Have a dentist look at them. And if they don't protrude to much He can put a veneer on the tooth or teeth. And yes veneers are instant braces. It can be an alternative to braces. A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to your tooth. The dentist has to take away tooth structure to do this and depending on the either the crowding and rotation of the tooth is on how much he has to remove. You then will wear a temporary plastic tooth while a lab makes the veneer. And about two to three weeks depending on the lab the Dentist then bonds the veneer to your tooth permanently. That is why I had 6 veneers on my lower anterior teeth to straighten my teeth. They cost about anywhere between 800.00 to 2000.00 a tooth depending on the Dentist. Remember you pay for what you get. How do I know this I was a Dental Asst. for 15 years. And no removing your wisdom teeth or 3rds as we call them will not make you teeth less crowded what is done is done. Only using forces like braces or invisaline or veneers or anyother restoration you and you Dentit decide to do will move the teeth.
Reply:Veneers are just a thin layer of porcelin that cover up crooked teeth. They do nothing to straighten your teeth.
Reply:Veneers... run as much as $700 a TOOTH. I know you dont want braces again, but if your teeth arent straight, or staying straight... go talk to your orthodontist about a better retainer (or a night retainer) to keep them from sliding back into crooked place.

Now, the wisdom teeth, is probably wahts moving your teeth in the first place. I'm sure once you get them removed, things will stop tryin to move. Veneers will not fix the "out of row" tooth at all. My opinion is... get the wisdom teeth pulled, get another retainer, and wait it out.

I wore braces twice. and my teeth kept moving, until i knocked the front one out and had to get a fake one. it closed the gap, and things stopped moving around. BUT... that was painful as the dickens too! Veneers are expensive, talk to your Ortho about other options.
Reply:Veneers can help your teeth Look straight only if there isn't a lot of crowding. I had some slight problems and my veneers are awesome. You need to be prepared to pay alot of $$$$ for them.
Reply:I just met with an orthodontist today and brought up veneers and he advised me not to. They have to file your teeth which mess with the integrity of your teeth and he said they improve the appearance a little, but if they need to be straightened , braces are the only way. I doubt a new retainer would work to realign.

Sounds like you might do Invisaline for a year or so to really correct it and then follow the advice of your dentist.

I am 36 and just getting braces and since I now have to pay for them and go through wearing them as an adult and I am definitely going to take care of them and follow directions. I will hate what I look like with them, but when they are of I will look gorgeous. It will be worth it.

Good luck.
