Does anyone know if veneers will actually straighten my teeth?

I had braces for three years. After I got them off I was pretty good about wearing my retainer. However, slowly but surely I kept for getting to put it in and eventually stopped. My mom would get mad that my teeth were getting crooked again (understandably, of course) and I would put them in. This would go on for like a week, but my teeth never got any better, that, and the pain was unreal. I've seen on tv that veneers can straighten out your teeth. I have one tooth on the bottom that sticks out of row, kind of like crowding, and my two front teeth are a little crooked, other than that, it is alright. I am very conscious about them though and was wondering if this would work. It would be senseless to get braces again because I would be stuck in the same situation that I'm in right now.

Also, if the veneers wouldn't help, do you think having my wisdom teeth pulled would help with the crowding?

Thanks!

Well it depends on how they protrude in your bite. Have a dentist look at them. And if they don't protrude to much He can put a veneer on the tooth or teeth. And yes veneers are instant braces. It can be an alternative to braces. A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that is bonded to your tooth. The dentist has to take away tooth structure to do this and depending on the either the crowding and rotation of the tooth is on how much he has to remove. You then will wear a temporary plastic tooth while a lab makes the veneer. And about two to three weeks depending on the lab the Dentist then bonds the veneer to your tooth permanently. That is why I had 6 veneers on my lower anterior teeth to straighten my teeth. They cost about anywhere between 800.00 to 2000.00 a tooth depending on the Dentist. Remember you pay for what you get. How do I know this I was a Dental Asst. for 15 years. And no removing your wisdom teeth or 3rds as we call them will not make you teeth less crowded what is done is done. Only using forces like braces or invisaline or veneers or anyother restoration you and you Dentit decide to do will move the teeth.
Reply:Veneers are just a thin layer of porcelin that cover up crooked teeth. They do nothing to straighten your teeth.
Reply:Veneers... run as much as $700 a TOOTH. I know you dont want braces again, but if your teeth arent straight, or staying straight... go talk to your orthodontist about a better retainer (or a night retainer) to keep them from sliding back into crooked place.

Now, the wisdom teeth, is probably wahts moving your teeth in the first place. I'm sure once you get them removed, things will stop tryin to move. Veneers will not fix the "out of row" tooth at all. My opinion is... get the wisdom teeth pulled, get another retainer, and wait it out.

I wore braces twice. and my teeth kept moving, until i knocked the front one out and had to get a fake one. it closed the gap, and things stopped moving around. BUT... that was painful as the dickens too! Veneers are expensive, talk to your Ortho about other options.
Reply:Veneers can help your teeth Look straight only if there isn't a lot of crowding. I had some slight problems and my veneers are awesome. You need to be prepared to pay alot of $$$$ for them.
Reply:I just met with an orthodontist today and brought up veneers and he advised me not to. They have to file your teeth which mess with the integrity of your teeth and he said they improve the appearance a little, but if they need to be straightened , braces are the only way. I doubt a new retainer would work to realign.

Sounds like you might do Invisaline for a year or so to really correct it and then follow the advice of your dentist.

I am 36 and just getting braces and since I now have to pay for them and go through wearing them as an adult and I am definitely going to take care of them and follow directions. I will hate what I look like with them, but when they are of I will look gorgeous. It will be worth it.

Good luck.
