How much do Veneers cost? What are my other options?

My mother is apparently grossed out by my teeth. I'm 30 years old and she has not liked the looks of my teeth for the past 5 years (as she keeps reminding me how horrible they look). Today she offered to pay to have 6 veneers put on my front top teeth. 1st of all, it hurts my feelings because I recently sent her a picture of myself that I thought I looked very pretty in...and now I'm thinking she looked at it and just saw my ugly teeth. I am not uncomfortable with how my teeth look. They are not perfect. Slightly crooked and slightly stained, but nothing too unusual. Secondly, my mother is 65 years old and needs to be saving for her retirement. She is living on her single income and won't even fly down here to visit us in our new home because she doesn't have enough money. Third, aside from this issue, she is my best friend. She wants to know how much they cost and if there are any other affordable options to straighten and whiten. Thanks

The decision on what to do should be made between you and the dentist. Your mother has already recommended a treatment option, but you have no diagnosis. A dentist needs to make a diagnosis on why your teeth have the appearance they do and then decide on the proper treatment. For example, someone who grinds is not a good candidate for veneers. Also, someone who has a lot of tooth decay is not a good candidate either. Plus, how are your gums. If you have gum disease veneers are not a good option. There are many treatment options, but only after proper diagnosis. If you're treated and everything is not taken into consideration through a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, you may be getting treatment that will not last long term.
Reply:God bless your mother! She loves you. I am sure she doesn't realize that she is hurting your feelings. But if your teeth really don't bother you, don't do anything. Thank her, but explain that you feel that she could put that money to better use elsewhere.

I dont know where you are, but here are the prices for things in my office.

Veneer: $950.00 a tooth

Full coverage porcelain crown: $925.00 a tooth

Zoom whitening: $595.00

I had to come back and add a comment after reading the second answer. There is no way that a porcelain veneer cost the same as filling a cavity. Not unless you are going to some back road, lost his license dentist. That is just crazy. That guy is talking about a composite veneer, which is not at all the same thing that I am talking about. Veneers are cosmetic. They are not cheap. I personally wouldn't want something that showed on the front of my face to be done cheaply. That is like getting a cheap nose job. Not a good idea.

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
Reply:I have one front tooth that needs a veneer on it. They last anywhere from 3 to 5 years. Costwise they are about the same as having a cavity filled. Its really easy to do ... painless and quick. They basically just glue the veneer to the tooth.

Maybe you should just get your teeth cleaned. That will remove stains also.

Jeez the previous poster said 950 for a veneer. I didn't get charged anywhere near that amount.
Reply:I had veneers on my bottom teeth about 5 years ago. They were not expensive. I actually need to have them replaced but they were not expensive and I liked the outcome very much.
Reply:That is very nice of your mother to offer to do that for you. But have you told her how you feel about your teeth?? Well going to the dentist for regular cleanings is good place to start. There are some things the dentist can do to help remove the stain also. There are a few different options to bleach your teeth also, there is laser bleaching, take home custom trays or crest white strips all those I would discuss with you dentist to find the best one for you. Veneers can cost anywhere from $700 - $1000 a piece depending on where you live. Also if your teeth are just slightly crooked you may be a good candidate for Invisalign braces. All things to discuss with your dentist and hygienist. Good luck.
Reply:First and foremost if you think you are beautiful that is what matters. With that if you have concerns about your teeth do this instead of Veneers. One you should have your teeth checked every 6 months. Lastly Braces and good cleaning will do wonders . the cleaning methods can range from bleaching, ultraviolet lighting and laser lighting. The laser is the best whitening method. So take care of your teeth brush after every meal and don't forget to floss choose the above because it is cheaper and voila you will have a smile of movie star
Reply:I was quoted nearly $1000, yes one thousand dollars PER TOOTH!!!!

Needless to say I have not had it done yet.
Reply:veneers can cost from 1500 on up. depends on the dentist you go to. but they are well worth it.
