Change color on dental veneers before cement?

I just had veneers on my top front 4 teeth yesterday and before the doctor cement it he change the color to be brighter. I don't know how he did it but he said it's permenant.

Today, I feel some discomfort because it's a bit too thick on 1 teeth but he said he can thinner them. I asked him once he trimmed the surface will the color won't match(to the changes he made - brighter). He told me he made the color on the back( I guess he means inner part) and the whole teeth have color.

Does it make sense? I thought the originial color is too dark so he make it brighter on the surface? So if he trimmed the surface then the changes on the color he made will be removed and the original dark color will be shown.

Is this doctor rite or he lied to me? Any doctor please reply my question. Thanks.
