Veneers for teeth with permanent retainers?

I have permanent retainers and I was wondering if I could get them.

About how much do they cost?

Veneers for teeth with permanent retainers?
Veneer are 350 to 500 dollars, and yes you can get veneers with the retainers on provided that the dentist does not impinge on them when he/she is preparing your veneer.

Veneers or braces?

how much do those stuff costs? are they worth the pain? the high maintenance thing u have to live with? which is better?

Veneers or braces?
braces are better and they are cheaper than veneers. my braces are 3363 dollars and veneers are more expenisive
Reply:im having my braces now and it cost me $4000.
Reply:I'm not sure how much veneers cost but I know it's a lot more then braces.
Reply:I think braces are better, causes less damage to ur teeth.
Reply:well it depends da state in which ur teeth is...veneers r definetly most costly then braces coz in venerrs the tooth is prepared and then a coatiing of restoration is placed on the tooth,,,so individual prep is done for each tooth,,,so it will be costly...whereas in braced dere is no preparation to be done...only if u rconscious u can go for tooth coloured braces...u can ask ur dentist he ill tellu...so decide and den go ahead..
Reply:Veneers are nice but you have to have your natural tooth prepped and something glued to the outside of it, and there is always a chance that they can fail. If you have braces and make your teeth straight and that keeps you from having to have veneers, that would be the better way to go. Braces in the end are worth all the work that comes with them, and the pain in not horrible.
Reply:DONT GET Veneers! I had veneers put on last May and it has been nothing but trouble. They gournd down my real teeth so there is no going back. My real teeth weren't even that bad to begin with. But the veneers fall off and then you have to walk around with a ugly stump of a tooth until the dentist can fit you in to rebond it onto your tooth. Its painful too.l
Reply:Well, I had my top 4 front teeth veneered. I had a gap in betweeen my front two teeth. It was very quick and they look wonderful, many compliments. It was about $1100 per tooth. So its not cheap. I would probably do it again. I do sometimes worry about cracking or chipping one, but I suppose that can happen to teeth that are not veneered also.
Reply:Elle, You are comparing apples and Oranges. Veneers are great if you have straight teeth and your teeth have some defects or chipped. If you get veneers with crowded teeth, your teeth will not look any better and you are out of several thousand $. In addition, veneers require removal of tooth structure (unless you get a new kind of veneers called Lumineers). Hope that helps.
Reply:That stuff can be really costly, but it depends on where you live. If you would feel better about yourself getting your teeth fixed and that is worth the pain for you, go for it. But you are obviosly bothered by the state of your teeth or you wouldnt be asking. The confidence to flash a beautiful smile is worth the money and pain to a lot of people. It just depends on you. Reply:Veneers cost more because it is per tooth done while braces cost less and most times are covered under dental insurance. The cost depends on your dentist and insurance. Braces are temporary and your real teeth are not covered. Veneers are porcelain and they cover the teeth. They can last 15-20 years if you take care of them. You need to talk to your dentist on which would be better for you.
Reply:My braces cost me 5000 dollars!

Which is better, porcelain veneers or regular veneers, and what are the prices?

DrAcidBath is correct. "Regular" veneers ARE porcelain veneers. I suspect that you are asking about a comparison between "direct bonded" resin veneers, done in one sitting, and porcelain veneers.

This is a very hard question to answer without knowing exactly what your teeth look like, how well you care for your teeth, etc. Knowing how comfortable your dentist is with each procedure makes a difference also.

My daughter bugged me and bugged me to do veneers on her teeth. She had some dark spots from medication as a baby (no choice in the matter...) and I agreed that she should have some treatment, but I did not want to place porcelain veneers on her at a young age. Finally, at age 16, I was willing to use bonding for her front six teeth. (Dentists - I only did 6-11, because we were not changing the shade.) My plan was to replace them with porcelain once she was in her 20's. She is now 33 years old and the bonding still looks great. (Dentists - I used Z-100 in 1989. I DID prepare a finish line.)

On the other hand, I have a dental assistant who needed "something" done, but she declined porcelain veneers and asked me to do the same thing that she saw on my daughter's teeth. (She said that she knew porcelain would not last forever and she wanted to delay her "permanent" treatment.) I did the same thing for her and found that she wore them out by excessive brushing, no matter how much I warned her, and we ended up replacing them - ALL of them - every 3 to 4 years. She just wore them down so much that you could see the edges of her natural teeth showing through. After about 10-12 years of playing with these bonded teeth, she FINALLY let me replace them with Empress porcelain crowns this year.

I have many patients (25 or 30) who have had porcelain veneers for 10-15 years with no problems. Frankly, I have not had problems with veneers failing, but I am very selective about who gets to have veneers as opposed to having a full porcelain crown.

So, it is very difficult to answer your question without seeing the conditions in your mouth. Bonding can be an excellent choice and it might last for a long, long time, as it has lasted 17 years for my daughter. Then again, bonding might not hold up more than 3 or 4 years, as it has for my assistant. When veneers are done properly and placed well, they might last for 20 years or more. When they are placed poorly or used where they really are not appropriate, they might not even last a year.

Discuss the pros and cons with your dentist.

A direct bonded veneer might cost from $300 to $500 and a porcelain veneer might cost from $700 to over $1,000. Multiply this by the number of teeth involved. If you are getting a whole mouthful of veneers, the "unit" price might be reduced.

Which is better, porcelain veneers or regular veneers, and what are the prices?
all veneers fabricated by a dental lab are made of porcelain... the only other type of veneer is not a true dental veneer as defined by the public. the tooth colored material used in dental fillings can also be used to reshape/contour teeth. this type of veneer is cheaper and reversible, but usually less esthetic and less durable.

How do Lumineer veneers compare in cost to regular veneers?

The cost are about the same, lumineers have very little to no reduction to the tooth and a regular veneer will need a bit of prepping to the tooth that 's going to be fitted for the veneer.

I just got veneers on my 6 front teeth. my dentist suggests another 2.are veneers strong enough to chew with?

are porcelain veners durable enogh to have them on "back" teeth too? or shell i go for crowns?

I just got veneers on my 6 front teeth. my dentist suggests another 2.are veneers strong enough to chew with?
Hello,

Ceramic-only posterior teeth are strong enough to chew with, and are becoming increasingly popular. Due to the configuration of your posterior teeth, the "veneers" (this is incorrect to use that term for posterior teeth!!!) are not build in the same way as they are on front teeth, but they are meant to sustain normal dental function.

Don't doubt of what your dentist said... He knows better than anybody else on earth what will or won't work in your mouth!
Reply:My husband has procelain all the way around on his bottom and is getting crowns on his top. Yes they are strong enough to chew with. He can eat anything he wants.
Reply:I'd go with your dentist, and explain your concern. If he suggests them, then they must be durable enough. But check before getting them. I'm not sure about the cost, or if that's even an issue, but generally your back teeth aren't as visible, so from a vanity sense, there's not so much of a need, unless its to benefit your oral health or to ease any discomfort.
Reply:I've had mine for over three years, with no problems. I've heard they may not be as good on the bottom teeth. Crowns are more painful and expensive
Reply:yes
Reply:If the two teeth that he is suggesting that you get veneers for are on either side of the six that he has already placed, these too are considered anterior (front) teeth. It is normal to recommend 8 veneers if needed and especially if your smile line is huge. You kinda want them there for an even balance. Anything beyond your bi-cuspids will need to have crowns on them. FYI, be careful biting into hard foods such as apples etc with your veneers. If you can break your natural tooth you can surly break a veneer.
Reply:I had a veneer replaced with a crown after it chipped. my other front tooth is a veneer for back teeth, I suggest crowns
Reply:He is probably doing crowns for the posterior teeth. I asume you have a broad smile and now the bicuspids look different. Most doctors start with a full plan I would be cautious if he did six and then came up with the idea for two more. See another doc for opinion # 2
Reply:the "veneer"is wrong term for posterior teeth, anayway it's called full coverage porcelain and it is sronger than your teeth

If you have lumineer (porcelain veneers) on 1 chipped tooth, can you use Invisalign?

I am 16 and I have a small chipped tooth in the front. I want to use invisalign to straighten my teeth. Will the pressure caused by invisalign break the veneer? I am especially interested in lumineers.

Thank You!

If you have lumineer (porcelain veneers) on 1 chipped tooth, can you use Invisalign?
You would be better off having the small chip repaired with "direct bonded resin" even if you are thinking about getting veneers later on. The relationship of the veneered tooth (or teeth) might change during your Invisalign treatment and then an edge would show somewhere that it didn't look so good. If it's a small enough chip, maybe you can just leave it alone until after you're done with the Invisalign.
Reply:Do you have Lumineers or do you want Lumineers?

(sorry for straying off the main question)

DO NOT GET LUMINEERS! They will permanently damage your teeth.

I wore Invisalign for about six months, and the pressure caused by it doesnt seem strong enough to crack anything.

But listen to that guy above me ^

You might want to consider getting world class dental treatment in India and get a vacation out of it at the same time.

We have treated a lot of international patients and they have all been very satisfied.
Reply:crowning and caps are the same thing. i would ask any foreign friends if they know of a good dentist in their home country. i went to vietnam and had about ten thousand dollars of work done for $600. the trip cost just over a thousand dollars and apart from the dentistry, i had a blast. you can try the web but most sites are posted for "wealthy" tourists and my experience was they were considerably more expensive.

Cheaper option to porceilin veneers?

hi guys. i live in australia. i absolutely hate my teeth, to a point where if i am out clubbing i dont like to smile, if i am talking to someone i tend to look down a lot or i get annoyed if people look at my mouth not my eyes when i am talking to them and i never smile with my teeth in photos... i am a happy person, but people ask me all the time "are u alright u seem sad/mad/upset?" my excuse is "oh i was just thinking". i am not rich (wish i was!) but i earn alright money, live at home still etc. so i can save.... is there a cheaper option to porceilin veeners? when i actually open my mouth and u see the row of all my top and bottom teeth they are straight as, when i do laugh and people see my teeth they always are like holy sh*t coz none of them are out of place. my bottom teeth are fine i dont have a problem with them but my top teeth i have a gap between the top 6 teeth. dentist tells me im lucky coz my wisdom teeth will push them all forward - is there a cheaper option to veneer

Cheaper option to porceilin veneers?
First of all, I can't believe that a dentist would actually extract a young patient's teeth and insert a full denture... unless, of course there was rampant decay....

You may be over-self-conscious about your teeth.... I would just leave them alone. They're healthy.... why ruin a good thing? If you decide to go with veneers or crowns, part of the tooth structure is taken away....and not to mention it's alot of money that you could put towards something else...

:)
Reply:Technically yes, but I don't think you will like the answer. You can extract all of your top teeth and got an full upper denture instead. We had a very young patient opt for that instead of veneers and crowns. I really would not recommend that unless you were dead set on doing it a cheaper way. Have you thought of taking out a small loan, there are many places that will even do payment plans with you.
Reply:resin veneers cost about $200 each and are less destructive of tooth structure.

What is the general price range for veneers..in Los Angeles I might add?

Im wondering how much a veneer would cost...no problematic snaggle teeth or anything, literally just a tooth on the top front that moved back a bit because i never wore my retainer, back enough to notice when i smile though...so i figured i would throw a veneer on it..but i have no idea what they range from...Im imagining $2500 each? I have been completely financially raped by a dentist before and am still paying down $9,000 in work, in which they refuse to give me a breakdown (I had HMO dental too) so i literally have NO idea whats reasonable..

Any ideas??

What is the general price range for veneers..in Los Angeles I might add?
I don't think you want to put a veneer on just one tooth. Your regular teeth generally stain with coffee, tea, sodas and the like, but the veneer wouldn't...

There is a radio comercial for "6 month power braces" I have been hearing about. maybe they have a website.

ALSO, I did my veneers and paid for them with CARE CREDIT. It's like a credit card, but when you use it with participating doctors and dentists, they give you a year or 6 months to pay it off with no interest! It's good for medical, dental, cosmetic, and even veternarians! Just go to www.carecredit.com for more info.

Then if you insist on veneers, my dentist only charges $650 per tooth for the Cerinate veneers. They look GORGEOUS. and they have a 20 year guarantee.

He is in Palmdale, Ca. his name is Dr. I. Angeles.

I have had SO many compliments on my teeth by other dentists and dental assistants.

But really, for one tooth...it would stay pearly white, but as you age, your real tooth color changes .
Reply:$2,000-2,500 per tooth.

to ensure you get a qualified dentist, check your state's licensing website to make sure the dentist you choose is "clean". also you can check places like 1.800.dentist for referrals.
Reply:For that price range, you might also want to consider Invisalign Express-- It is good for simple/minimal tooth movement, and simpler to do than a veneer (which requires grinding off some enamel and matching the shade of the porcelain to your existing teeth, which can be difficult).

A good alternative for you to consider. Good luck.
Reply:I also have been gouged by dentists ,not for veneers but for caps.

I was quoted over $36,000 for the work i needed

so in desperation i decided to look abroad for help.

I know this may not be the answer you were expecting but i managed to get world class cosmetic dentistry by a US trained dentist for 92% less that i had been quoted

It cost me less than $2500 for 28 top quality porcelain caps, and i had a lovely holiday at the same time. I know this isn't convenient for everyone, but if you are thinking of spending a decent amount of money then it's certainly worth looking into

Hope this helps

Can you whiten porcelain veneers?

I have like yellow teeth that need whitening but i have a porcelain veneer. can i stilll whiten them without having one white tooth

Can you whiten porcelain veneers?
Unfortunately not... if the veneer is lighter than the rest of the teeth, you could always whiten the others to match the shade of the veneer...

Otherwise, an new one would have to be placed to match the newly whitened teeth... just keep in mind that whitening doesn't last forever and you'll be back in the same predicament sooner or later~

Do you know what celebrities have porcelain veneers on their teeth?

I'm getting just one veneer in one of the 2 front teeth to even it out with the other one and i felt the dentist made the tooth smaller by drilling it, then he put the temporary on top. The tooth felt so thin! i didn't there to look at myself in the mirror in case it didn't look good. I always had complements about my smile just the way it was. I'm afraid that now i will always need a veneer on to of that too. Any profesional in this area pls tell me! Thank you.

Do you know what celebrities have porcelain veneers on their teeth?
I know that Tom Cruise has had a lot of dental work done, his are more than likely veneers

Will having veneers put on your teeth make them rot? What, if any, are the negative effects of veneers?

Without their origional enamel to protect them, teeth are more likely to rot at the bases where the veneers come in contact with the actual tooth.

Will having veneers put on your teeth make them rot? What, if any, are the negative effects of veneers?
No. Expensive, but if done by a pro, beautiful smile.
Reply:I have them a few of them. Veneer and Lumineers. You have to be careful what you bite into. You don't want to chip or crack them. But I have treated them like real teeth and they're strong. Cutting up an apple instead of biting into is what my dentist recommended. And if you grind, wear a nightguard. Keep up with dental cleanings. And brush and floss of course. They might suggest a whitening. Because it's almost impossible to lighten but easier to darken. I really like them. Most are but go to a cosmetic dentist. Lumineers are more natural looking since they are slightly transparent and shiney like real teeth. But the veneers are also natural. I just had the Lumis to compare, lol. With veneers, I had to have my real tooth shaved to put it in. With Lumis, I didn't so no needles and no pain. They put place it on top. But with either, it has given me so much confidence. I smile more. See your dentist and see what they suggest for your teeth. And see if they can show you pics. Good luck!
Reply:Veneers are right, for the right person and right situation, but not everyone...

First..why are you getting them? To make your teeth whiter, straighter, close gaps? These are all important factors.

Second...keep in mind these are not as strong as your original teeth, and these will probably need replaced about every 7-10 years...in this timeframe, the glue that holds them on breaks down, and they need to be redone...If you are 20...do the math and calculate the cost..they are not a longterm permanent fix..they are temporary, as is any filling in your mouth..

Also, someone else mentioned going to a cosmetic dentist...there is no such thing...it is not a specialty...any dentist can do cosmetics, some just advertise it more. It would be like a store advertising groceries...you are allowed to sell other things, and anyone can sell groceries..

Get it done by your dentist...and make sure your expectations are realistic...go over this in great detail with your dentist...

Temporary home remedy to fix detached veneers?

one of my veneer fell off and I cant get a doctors appointment until 4 days from now, I need to know a way to make my detached veneer stay for at least 4 days....

Temporary home remedy to fix detached veneers?
There is nothing that you should use to try to reattach it temporarily due to the fact that they are very fragile and you would possible have it come loose and crush it during chewing or swallow it. We always tell patients not to try to reattach but have them come in immediately. My advice is "leave it off." You may have some sensitivity, but not so much to cause a toothache and just try not to drink or eat hot or cold allowing these to get on the tooth. I would call the dentist office Monday and tell them you need their emergency appointment for that day to take care of this. All offices have some time allotted just for their emergency patients to be seen. This is not a dire toothache emergency, but you could tell them you're having extreme sensitivity to air and liquids. Which you may have or will have by then. You shouldn't have to wait four days for a re-cement, that long will allow the tooth to become hypersensitive and be more uncomfortable for you during the re-cement procedure. Good luck, call them again Monday morning they may be able to squeeze you in somewhere. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help. Don't take a chance on loosing it or breaking it, a little expensive to replace!

There is a tempory cement available in the drug stores, do not use this as this is a "veneer," not a "crown" and it's is more prone to come off and be crushed or broken when chewing because you may not feel it when it comes loose. This material works good for crowns due to the full coverage, but veneers only cover the facial area and are way too fragile being full porcelain. Don't take a chance of having to have a new one made (at your expense) just leave it off and call the dentist Monday morning.
Reply:superglue
Reply:Unfortunaltely there is no home remedy, and do not superglue it, cos when the dentist has to remove the veneer to stick it with the proper cement, your tooth can fracture.

Just eat around it and as long as it is not causing you pain...you can wait till your appointment. or go to another dentist who can see you asap!
Reply:go to your local pharmacy, they can direct you to a temporary cement that is made for just such an emergency.

Anybody have experience with crown, veneers??!!? I am really confused !!!?

Hello,

I have 3 broken tooth in front. I would like to restore them but i want to best ways, i don't want to waste my money or feel sorry later. Is Crown better or veneer? if i put crown or veneer, do i loose more part from my tooth? are they removable if i didn't like them later and i want to change? advantages ? disadvantages? cost?

Thanks a lot.

Anybody have experience with crown, veneers??!!? I am really confused !!!?
Hi, I can't comment on crowns because I don't know what the difference is between them and veneers. But I can give you my opinion on Veneers.

They look lovely, but with one catch. Although they are sturdy, I am always paranoid that they are going to break off. I've had my six front teeth done for the last 3 years now with no problems. Cost? $3,600. Worth every cent appearance-wise, but like I said, I can't help but treat them very carefully. No biting carrots, apples, things like that. Yes, your tooth will have to be filed down to a certain size before you could have a veneer fitted. When they filed mine down, they looked like sharks teeth. I thought "OMG" what have I done. But once the veneers were put on, they looked beautiful. I never used to smile much because I hated my original teeth. Now, I smile all the time and am not at all self-conscious. I'm very happy with the results, when I'm not paranoid that I'm going to have one fall off. That's my experience anyway.
Reply:I just went throught a procedure called "CEREC". Check it out online. Don't have site for ya. My dentist recommended it. Gave me brochure. Had it done. I'm satisfied. My insurance paid 80% of it! Left me w/ cost of $120.00. Not bad considering....dental can be expensive.
Reply:with a crown you will lose most of the tooth, because they need to slim down the tooth to place the crown. a crown also i not cheap as well.. a veneer is the cheepest way to go between the 2. a veneer just covers the existing tooth, first they will smooth down the surface of the tooth so that the veneer will fit properly. both can be replaced if needed. most of the time. they both last pretty long. There is alot of preperation for both... as long as the teeth dont need rootcanals or are not damged. you should not have a problem either way. if so, then you would probably need to have a root canal or post placed. but, you could still have one of the 2 choices that you were asking about.. good luck...

Can I get porcelain veneers on my bottom teeth?

I'm getting my top 6 teeth veneered, but I would like my bottom ones done too. My dentist said it's not recommended that I get my bottom teeth veneered cause of something with the bite? Is it possible to get them on your bottom teeth?

Can I get porcelain veneers on my bottom teeth?
It is certainly possible to have lower teeth veneered. Veneers are very strong and I can't imagine what type of bite would prohibit veneers from being placed. Ask your dentist to be specific as to why he/she wouldn't recommend them on your lower teeth and consider getting a second opinion BEFORE you have the top veneers placed. (You might look worse by having just the top teeth veneered and leaving the lowers as is.)

I hope this helps.
Reply:I would need more information to answer this more detailed but knowing what I know about veneers I can give you my two cents. Veneers are generally made of porcelain which is actually harder than enamel (the substance that covers your teeth). If he mentioned something about your lower teeth and a "bite" chances are he's concerned about the backside of your front teeth being scraped away by hard porcelain veneers during a protrusive movement (hehe sorry, dental lingo).

yes sometimes when dentists do the two front teeth(#8and#9) they do both at the same time even if not needed so they both match correctly(ive seen many dentists do this because i was a temp once where i would go to a different office every day and work) maybe he did only one to save you money? they do file the tooth down to where it resembles a stub...dont be scared..but from now on you would have to wear veneers..or you could always have him do tooth colored filling in the front to repair the look...(i had two tooth colored filling in my front teeth and lasted so far 9 years)nothing is ever permenent...veneers last a long time but not forever..you also cannot bite into apples, you have to slice them from now on..never use your front teeth to bite into anything or they will possibly break or come off..be careful..hope this is helpful to you..
Reply:can't remove them ,they are permanent

Do veneers stay on?

if i were to bite into something hard, or get punched in the face, would i have to worry about my porcelain veneer coming off my tooth, or chipping easily? i box often and i don't want to worry about wasting money!

Porcelain veneers are pretty tough. Expensive though.

Tooth Veneers?

Hi there, I would like to have my top 8 teeth veneered and need to find a reasonably priced dentist in the uk. If you've had this done can you tell me how much and where you had them? There is a dentist on here called Cleo, I think but you can't contact him, he charges £200 per tooth and that is really good. I also want my gums reshaping at the top as my teeth are really short and I have a 'gummy' smile. Is this possible? and how much does this cost? Thanks for any answers.

If you can get it done for that price go for it ,my sons partner just had it done and it cost 7000.

Dental Veneers..drilling question?

looks like im gonna be getting 4 veneer to make the fix on one tooth look natural. anyway- tooth in question may need a decent amount of drilling to remove material due to placement and crowding. other wise its a healthy tooth. should i be worried about this? plus, is that gonna be painful? i mean, its a live healthy tooth.

thanks a lot for any insight!

Dental Veneers..drilling question?
dont worry doesnt hurt a bit
Reply:Don't worry about it. It's no worse than a filling, and you will be numb during the procedure. You will be happy with the result when it is done. I had one done, and it wasn't bad at all.

Dental Veneers??? Success/Horror stories......?

I am due to have 3 of my front teeth veneered in a few months as i have slight staining... and to be honest although i have wanted them for a long time and know they would look so much better, im really bricking it!! Has anyone had these done and how painful is it, honestly???

Dental Veneers??? Success/Horror stories......?
I have not had it done myself, but i see it done on a daily basis as i am a dental nurse.

There are 2 kinds of veneers, porcelain and composite!

Porcelain veneers require the dentist to take an impression of your teeth, this impression is then sent to an outside lab (my practice use an outside lab, others may have their own lab on site) the veneers are made and are fitted about a week and a half later.

The composite veneers are made chair side by the dentist (not sure if this is a common procedure in every surgery but my dentist makes his own), this simply requires the dentist to roughen the surface of the tooth, and then add composite material- this is the material used for white fillings, and hey presto you have lovely new veneers in about 45 minutes.

Either kind of veneer is equally as good as the other, the only advantage I'd say about the composites is, if you chip a piece off you only need to return to the surgery and the dentist can replace the chip there and then, with porcelain veneers you cant do that and the whole thing has to be remade!

Go for it, you have nothing to fear, it's painless and they look great.

Good luck and Happy smiling!!!
Reply:Had mine done years ago, before it was fashionable!

If it didn't hurt in the 1980s I sure as hell won't hurt now!
Reply:I had just gotten my braces off a week before school started. Both of my two front teeth were chipped. So the first thing that the dentist did was put on a temp. bond. After two months we figured out that it was yellowing to quickly. So they said that I needed to get veneers. I was supposed to get them when I was 18 but I guess not. The process of putting them on was really quite easy and quick. It didn't hurt at all. Just be sure that when you get your mold mad and the color of them picked out that your teeth are the whitest that they can be. If they are when you get your color picked out for your veneers, they will pick a whiter color to match your teeth color. I hope my answer answers your question. Best of luck.

Veneers or caps for the front teeth?

I have had this front tooth with a veneer on it come loose three times in the last four months. I cannot even bite food without being paranoid that this thing is going to come off. So what strarted off as a cosmetic enhancment has now become horrible. Should I get caps and will they look just as good? Help, I have a new cosmetic dentist but he is a 2 and 1/2 hour drive away and I cannot keep taking time off to get this fixed.

Veneers or caps for the front teeth?
since veneers didn't work for you, I'd go with the caps.
Reply:Hi Felina..this Can be a problem with veneers But shouldn't be.

I can honestly say that a properly fitted veneer shouldn't create this problem, and there's nothing worse than being aware of it the whole time, hoping it wont come off.

I should see about having that veneer replaced, at your original dentists expense, this shouldn't be happening.

A cap,or crown, can look fine but is expensive, and is a bigger job.

Let me know what your dentist says.

Reply:veneers can and do come off from time to time, however with today's advancements in all ceramic crowns you can get a crown that is both natural and pleasing to the eye. It may cost you a little extra but the results are fabulous

Question about veneers...?

Just had a consultation with a cosmetic dentist about getting my top teeth fixed. I have one very recessed tooth, second over from the right (not right next to my 2 front teeth, but one over)...

I wanted just to get that one tooth fixed with a veneer (dentist said it was too far back to do bonding), but the dentist said I would have to get all 6 of my front teeth veneered at the same time if I wanted my one tooth to "match" the others.

I can't afford nor justify spending $500 EACH on 5 perfectly good teeth in order to fix my one tooth that is recessed...

Does this sound right? Or is the dentist just trying to make extra money off of me? Do you know of any other alternatives I could do to fix my tooth?

Thanks!

Question about veneers...?
You are talking about a canine tooth. There is no reason why just that one can't be done but there are a few issues that possibly would make that less than optimal. #1 I would bet that there is not enough space between the two teeth next to the recessed one, that is why it got stuck behind, and if you only did that one it would be smaller than the canine on the other side. Symmetry is VERY important in creating a beautiful natural looking smile. You might end up looking worse than when you started. #2 is the shade issue. You can get one tooth to match perfectly but it takes a little more time and effort by the lab guy, yourself, and the dentist.

Do you like your smile, other than the one? If the only thing that bothers you is the one recessed tooth braces really would be the best way to go. If he recommended doing all 6 then he probably sees minor imperfections on the others that can be fixed. And he could also make your entire smile symmetrical too, which would be impossible if only one tooth done.
Reply:I am a dental assistant and have been for ten years. It is really hard to tell without seeing your mouth but if you only need one veneer I dont see why the dentist is recommending 6 ,I am assuming from canine to canine unless ther are some spaces or a severe shade difference in all of your teeth. If you are happy with your smile and just want the one veneer done and the dentist is just concerned about it matching properly the dentist can have you visit his/her dental lab that would be doing the veneer so that they can see your mouth and match a perfect shade. Please get a second opinion and don't be talked into anything you are not comfortable with. Good Luck!
Reply:Have you considered orthodontia? Perhaps an orthodontist could move your tooth to appear closer and in better formation.

You could also consider a crown. The difference between a veneer and a crown is that a veneer essentially just goes overtop the front of the tooth and is slightly translucent. Your dentist is right that a veneer on just one tooth toward the front, it may not match very well and you just spent $500+ for a tooth that looks goofy.

However a crown will take away healthy tooth structure to change a cosmetic issue. We never recommend taking away healthy tooth structure if it is avoidable.

If bonding is not an option, I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe try for a second opinion...

I still have baby teeth for my canine teeth. i want t do something about it. should i get veneers?

or would you suggest other methods or something. how much would you think veneers would cost?

I still have baby teeth for my canine teeth. i want t do something about it. should i get veneers?
I have a veneer on one of my baby teeth in the front of my mouth. I am over 40 and still have 3 baby teeth with no permanent teeth underneath. You want to hang on to the real tooth as long as you can so go with a veneer. My veneer was around $120, but it really depends on a lot of factors. A veneer on an existing tooth is a lot cheaper than a cap or replacement fake tooth.
Reply:not exactly sure but my brother had the same problem and hes 35 had to have a lot of surgery i dont know if age makes a difference.my brother didn't have to pay for the extensive treatment he had but it was very expensive.

I have gap in my front teeth. im 17 and it bothers me now. should i get braces or veneers?

my bite is fine. its just that i have space in my front teeth. braces could close them but its expensive and takes a long time. veneers would be instant but im afraid that it would look fake. what should i get?

I have gap in my front teeth. im 17 and it bothers me now. should i get braces or veneers?
You are still young, get braces b/c they will also aid in repelling any future perio dz and be easier to clean throughout your life. Also, for veneers to be applied, tooth structure needs to be taken away and it also gives plaque a place to hide out at the gumline leading to perio disease. I had braces at 17...not as bad as it sounds just remember to wear your retainer at night always!!!
Reply:If it were me I would try the invisalign braces. I've heard veneers can be uncomfortable at first and have a chance of breaking in the future. Sometimes a gap is cute...so make sure your not trading cuteness for vanity ;)
Reply:I think that the long term effects would be much better with braces. You probably haven't gotten all of your wisdom teeth, and if you get veneers, your wisdom teeth will get crowded, make your teeth crooked, and you will more than likely have problems. Wisdom teeth are painful if they don't grow in right. Another thing, It's a good possibility that when your wisdom teeth come in, they may just push your front teeth together. Good luck!
Reply:If you are a girl I think you should keep the gap because it is cute. Just look at Madonna.
Reply:Get he invisalign braces. That will fix it permamently. With veneers, they only last up to 10 years and cost around $1,000 to $1,500 per tooth.

I would like to get my teeth whitened but is laser or guard better?I also have 2 veneers & need them replaced?

I have been qouted £450 at local dentist for guard whitening and replacement of veneers included £2,100. I have receeding gums which I am worried about with the whitening process.

I would like to get my teeth whitened but is laser or guard better?I also have 2 veneers %26amp; need them replaced?
I agree with the Dental Nurse above...have your teeth whitened before you have your veneers redone so you get a perfect shade match.

The laser whitening is so fast and intense it could cause long term damage to the nerves.....it's a relatively new procedure so there is no long term literature to show how it may affect teeth in the long run.

The guard and gel method has been around longer so there is more literature around to back up it's safety.

The guard and gel method which you would use at home has a lower % of bleach and therefore is more gentle on the nerves. However some people do experience sensitivity through it's use.

If you're gonna go for it, I recommend using a bleach that is a 10% solution - the lowest available but you will find it just as affective....you'll notice a difference in a week or two.

Your receding gums shouldn't be a problem unless they are already sensitive in which case stay away from bleaching....it will exasperate the problem.

Private dental practises set their own charges for veneers or crowns - shop around to see if you can get a better price.

The current NHS price for one veneer is £83 but can only be done if clinically necessary under their guidelines....may be worth investigating - though trying to get an NHS dentist can be tricky depending on where you live.
Reply:i am considering having my teeth whitened also. i would say laser is the best way to go
Reply:why not try crest whiten strips much cheaper and they really work about $50
Reply:Your gums will get really sensitive with the guard whitening if they are receeding, and laser whitening makes teeth extremely sensitive even without recession. I whitened mine up four shades and had no problem and love my teeth now. Do you go to a private dentist? Thats really expensive for two veneers. But best to bleach your teeth before you change your veneers for best colour match, dont want to look daft after spending so much money.

Earlier when there was no proper treatment introduced in dentistry only dentures was the answer for tooth decay. But now dentistry has advanced so rapidly that almost every tooth problem has a solution.

Prosthodontics deals with the replacement of teeth by fixing crows, bridges and dentures. A new technique has been introduced named as cosmetic dentistry that aims to add a glow to the teeth by making it shinier and whiter. It is obvious that when your teeth look beautiful it directly reflects in your smile and enhances your personality.

There are different procedures to beautify your teeth.

Bleaching is one of the procedures to whiten the layers of your

teeth by using bleaching agents. There are trays that are loaded with these agents and they are fixed to the teeth. They are removed after an hour or two. The process is repeated depending upon the patient’s tooth discoloration. There is a new procedure wherein the agent is directly applied to the teeth without using any trays. It can be completed in just a sitting within 30-45 minutes.

There is another technique, which can be carried out at home. Individual trays are made and are loaded with the necessary chemicals. They are inserted into the mouth and are retained for about 6-8 hours and are removed later. It requires almost 15-20 days to show results. But after this procedure you may experience slight gum irritation and teeth sensitivity. But the results of this procedure are really promising. It is better if the same procedure is carried out in the dentist’s office as the dentist has the required knowledge.
Reply:I WAS TOLD BY MY DENTIST THAT ' TEETH WHITENING' ONLY WORKS ON ' NATURAL TEETH' THAT IS YOUR OWN TEETH, IT WILL NOT WHITEN CROWNS OR FILLINGS, SO DONT BE TALKED INTO SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY, WHEN YOU WONT GET A GOOD RESULT.

DENISTRY IS MUCH CHEAPER IN CYPRUS, GO FOR A HOLIDAY AND GET YOUR TEETH FIXED AT THE SAME TIME.

I have cosmetic bonding on my teeth. Is there any way to whiten these without getting porcelain veneers?

I would like to whiten my teeth, but i know that the bonding will not whiten. What are my options? I really do not want to get porcelain veneers.

I have cosmetic bonding on my teeth. Is there any way to whiten these without getting porcelain veneers?
Veneers in the only way...

Unless you whiten your teeth and then have whiter bonding put on. But what's the point? Just get the veneers.
Reply:It may be possible to just re-do the bonding in a whiter shade after your teeth are whiter. Veneers is an option also, but bonding is definitely more conservative. With bonding, you can do veneers later, but once you have veneers you cannot go back. Talk to your dentist about which option is best for you. Good luck!
Reply:The color of the dental bonding material on your teeth can not be changed except by redoing the bonding in a lighter color or porcelain veneers, sorry!
Reply:I am a dentist. Bonding picks up staining over time and can sometimes be polished out, but usually not. Your options really are to replace the bonding, cheaper, but the same will happen again in a few years, or porcelain veneers, which do not stain, cost more but last much longer.
Reply:Simply VISTA any dentist and ask him for bleaching and he will Chang this bonding

Are you an adult over 35 years of age with METAL braces, NOT invisible braces or veneers?

I'm in the process of improving my entire life. I can't afford veneers, and other expensive dental work, and I don't qualify for invisible braces, so I plan to pay monthly on metal braces in the future when I'm in a better position financially. I know there are adults who wear braces, but I personally have not seen any over the age of 35. How many of you are over 35 with metal braces? How difficult was it to wear them? How long did you wear them based on the condition of your teeth? If I qualified for invisible braces, it wouldn't be an issue, but since metal braces are so obvious and usually for children, I'm a little concerned. What I want is more important than what others think, but I can't help but feel the minute I open my mouth with metal braces people will think "this person is too old for braces". LOL

Are you an adult over 35 years of age with METAL braces, NOT invisible braces or veneers?
I have had several friends over 35 that have had braces. In fact, they were 40, 43, and 45 when they got them. NONE of them got invisible. My good friend (age 43) that has them now. She can well afford invisible (she had to get them because of her bite %26amp; if not she could lose her teeth later in life) Also, 2 of her 4 kids currently have braces. I don't even notice them on her anymore! She even goes for the colored bands! In October she is getting orange. None of her friends mind or care. She is very social %26amp; has just 'embraced' it all (no pun intended). Another friend (male - age 45) got them- again, he could have easily afforded non-metal, but didn't want to waste the money. He had them on the longest....his teeth look great. My other friend got them at age 40 (and she was single!!!!!)....she actually met her fiance while she had them (an airline pilot)....and they've been happily married for years now....

I had braces when I was younger, but my teeth have shifted (I'm over 35), and I need them again.....when I do, I'm just doing metal...the end result will be the same, no matter the price, so why spend more? Since I'm considering when to get them for me, I seem to be seeing them on more adults - and I'd say I see a LOT Of metal.......Good Luck!
Reply:I think braces on an adult would be kinda cute/endearing.

You could probably get away with lots of stuff and just go 'awww shucks!'.
Reply:no im not even close to 35

Does anyone know if there are any places to get cosmetic dental work, such as veneers, at discounted price?

I would really like to get veneers for six of my front top teeth, but cannot afford the 6000 quoted. wondering if there's any other way

Does anyone know if there are any places to get cosmetic dental work, such as veneers, at discounted price?
You can probably find a dentist in your local area by call 1-800-DENTIST.

Now, if you can't afford the cost you can try these two places:

www.carecredit.com and

www.capitalone.com/healthcarefinance

Both of these offer financing for dental, orthodontics, vision, cosmetics, fertility, veterinary, audiology, chiropractic, hair restoration, etc.

I'm forking out a big chunk of change for a root canal, stud %26amp; crown. My dentist was listed with www.carecredit.com so I applied and got approved. I'm not paying that much each month and if I pay it off within 18 months I won't be paying any finance charges.

Try 1-800-DENTIST to find dentists in your area and then log on to the two sites to see if any of the dentists are listed with either or both companies.

Good luck!

Reply:Not that I am aware of. I would try at a dental college and see what prices they would charge. They are helping students learn how to do this and it comes with as well. These places have been known to charge about 10% of the day rate at clinics.
Reply:geez, you people aren't going to find discount cosmetic dentistry in america. even dental schools know cosmetics aren't necessary and charge a lot for cosmetic cases to make up for their low fees on the necessities (cleanings, fillings, extractions, etc). if you do, you need to wonder why the dentist has to charge so little. cosmetic dentistry is very difficult to do well as there are lots of ways it can fail or, more likely, be cosmetically displeasing. if you want cosmetic work, save your money and get it when you can afford it. if you think you need it to make more money, get on a care credit payment plan and don't skimp. you'll look like a fool with a bad veneer job, trust me.
Reply:YES, THERE IS A SOLOUTION FOR YOU. and its too bad more people dont know about it. you DONT have to go to a dental college or mexico (scary!) or resort to putting it on a credit card (you'll just end up paying more for it in the long run)

There is a plan that will help you get discounted rates on ALL dental work, yes, even cosmetic. It doesnt pay 100%, but it will save you SIGNIFICANT money. And no, the rates arent discounted because the dentists are bad. They sign special contracts with us because dealing with tradtional insurance ends up costing them tons of extra time and money. Bonding is breaking after not even two years. instead of repairing it should I just redo it and get veneers?

When I was young my teeth were gapped. Naturally, I am missing my two incisors on my top teeth, so when I got braces, the orthodontist just decided to push all my teeth together, and have my canines act like they were my incisors. Years later, my teeth split. So by May 2005 I got my front four teeth bonded. (the two canines that secretly are my insisors and my front two) By Oct 2006, my left canine/insisor bonding job chipped. in pictures and in person it looks fine since there is still the regular tooth behind it. my dentist (who didnt do my bonding job) ended up sticking the piece back on. that lasted til mid jan 07. now, he is saying that it will cost like 400 dollars to replace that tooths bonding, but also brought up the idea about veneers. i like the idea of having fuller beautiful looking teeth, but i am scared of the part where he said there is a gum specialist who comes in and shaves your gums down, and in veneers, dont they make your normal tooth the size of a little nub?

Bonding is breaking after not even two years. instead of repairing it should I just redo it and get veneers?
The reason why the bonding is so expensive is because they have to do so many areas of the tooth in a case like this. The more surfaces the bonding has to cover, the more money it costs.

I would absolutely look into the veneers. I actually had my four front teeth done and they look amazing. I'm not sure why he is saying that a gum specialist would have to shave down your gums, as I did not have that done. I know that with any type of gum surgery it can be more painful and take a little longer to heal. If you do choose to have the veneers, make sure they numb you completely! I had excruciating pain during my procedures because I was not numb enough!

Also, with veneers they do not need to shave your teeth down to little nubs, that is with crowns. With veneers they only need to shave down the front surface of the tooth. If they didn't, the tooth would look bulky and unnatural and not stay on as well. Veneers really are a great way to go, and they look amazing. They are rather expensive, but well worth the money! Good luck!

Reply:I dont know of any dentist in philly but I do know you would have to get veneers on at least 4 teeth. If you only did the front two they would look like chicklets. Some dentist would recommend that you do the front six.
Reply:LMAO, you cant afford veneers, they average about 1300 per tooth. and then those 2 teeth will be perfectly white, and the rest as they usually are, its a horrible idea just to get like 2 done. they can close the gap by bringing the from two teeth together, which will cost about 400
Reply:Hi, it all depends on what doctor you go to, some are priceier than others, I would suggest you go for free consults to get a price, however venerrs are pretty expensive, call dentists in your area and ask around.
Reply:composite or veneers can be used to fill gaps.

composite being the cheaper of the 2 also conserves more of the tooth structure. it is also possible to put it on 'temporarily' so you can see if you even like the look of it. this is in the hundreds of dollar range. http://www.animated-teeth.com/tooth-bond...

if you get veneers the doc usually recommends whitening first because the color of the veneers will NEVER change and if you ever whiten your veneers will stick out like a sore thumb. you would need at least 2 to fill the gap. this is in the thousands of dollar range. http://www.animated-teeth.com/porcelain_...

also, consultations at a dentist are rarely free.
Reply:The rule of thumb is to divide the gap by two. This is to keep the mid line in the correct place and not subject the patient to ridicule. Veneers are costly and are hard to do. They are good only for cosmetics and are subject to all sorts of gremlins. but they are beautiful and a good answer to closing gaps. Be prepared to pay a lot with no insurance coverage. Philly has a host of world famous dentists. Check either U of Penn or Temple for their recommendations.

Can I sue my dentist for not letting me know the cons of porcelain veneers? I feel cheated....?

I had porcelain veneers done to my 2 front teeth in Dec and my teeth are still sensitive after 8 months. I can't sleep at night because I feel that I made a big mistake by getting them done in the first place. My dentist never warned me that the sensitivity would last this long or that my tooth would have to be shaved down dramatically. I found all this out after I got it done. I've been doing a lot of research lately and found out that if you have more of your tooth shaved down there would be more trauma to the tooth....so more sensitivity. I feel that my dentist was not looking out for my best interest, because if he were then he would have warned me of the after math and what I would have to go through. I don't know what to do....

Can I sue my dentist for not letting me know the cons of porcelain veneers? I feel cheated....?
^ in response to the "certified dentist" above. so you are saying that the dentist was at no fault when he obviously KNEW that by shaving her teeth which were protuding would cause trauma and prolonged sensitivity? Whether or not this person has a case or not, i am not sure, but to put all the blame on the patient is absolutely ridiculous. Who said that she wanted her hand held like a 1st grader?? that is a very insensitive and rude response on your part.

to answer your question, Julie, I am not completely sure about the legal ramifications, but I hope you have a case because bastards like these have no right to practice.

Best of luck to you
Reply:For the sensitivity, try Sensodyne toothpaste. It is not an overnight fix, but if you use it nightly for a week, you should have a decrease in sensitivity. Make sure it's the last thing you do before bed so that you are not eating or drinking at least thirty minutes after using.
Reply:I wonder why you didn't do all that research BEFORE you had the veneers done. Seems to me, for such a huge investment in time and money, you'd want to inform yourself.

Yes, your dentist should have explained the details and possible consequences...but can you sue? Probably not. The primary person responsible for looking our for your best interests is YOU.
Reply:Sue...not likely, but your dentist has a responsibility for the sensitivity. You should NOT be having this with veneers. Call the office and tell them what's going on. You should not be charged for this.
Reply:Why do people always think that because they didn't do their homework, someone else needs to be blamed? And even sued? No, you can not sue your dentist because he didn't hold your hand and talk to you like you're a 1st grader. You're an adult, and it was obviously a silly assumption on his part, but he probably thought you knew what you were asking for.

What is the way to get all crowns on your teeth? is that veneers? how much?

I have been having trouble with my teeth every since I had my son and daughter. I brush and floss reguarly. I was thinking of veneers? Does this help?

What is the way to get all crowns on your teeth? is that veneers? how much?
Veneers are strictly for esthetics and will ultimately jeopardize the overall health of your teeth. The margins between the veneer and your natural tooth is a very vulnerable place for plaque accumulation. Nothing is more solid for dental health than natural tooth structure. If you're just concerned with the way your teeth look veneers are generally a good solution for that. Depending on where you live the prices can vary, but I'd expect somewhere around 800 to 1000 per tooth.
Reply:veneers look real good but they are very expensive. Dental insurance does not pay for all of it. Talk to your dentist and see what he recommends.....

If i cracked my tooth but nothing fell off, what should i do? Veneers or Crowns?

Last week i hit my tooth playing a sport. it cracked in 3 places, but nothing fell off. I had pain and it was loose for the first 2 days and now i have no pain, and the looseness is gradually tightening. I have perfect teeth and i am worried that eventually the cracks would get bigger through time and it would fall off. It is my front tooth. I am going to see several cosmetic dental surgeons, however i would like to know from people who have had this experience before what to do? If necessary should i consider veneers or dental crowns? i have a very nice smile and i am very concerned...

DEPENDING ON THE CRACKS, VENEERS MAY BE INDICATED.

IN COSMETIC DENTISTRY THERE IS A RULE OF 2,4,6, ETC. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT YOU ONLY SEE CRACKS IN ONE, YOU WILL LOOK BETTER IN THIS CASE TO HAVE BOTH FRONT TEETH VENEERED.
Reply:I think price wise your looking about the same for both. I talked to my dentist recently about veneers because the bottom of one of my front teeth chipped. He said he would recommend veneers, but he would advise I do both front teeth, not just the one. So you might need to fix both, so they look the same. But it also depends on your teeth I guess.
Reply:Such situations like yours with cracked tooth are tricky to tell without physical exam. You may opt for veneers to start with. But it would be known at the time of tooth preparation whether you may have to settle for crown as it covers from all sides.

Whats the best replacement for lost tooth? Im hearing crowns, bridges and veneers? how does it differ?

I lost my three front tooth. I have used dentures ever since and I dont like it. Its been three years since and I really need to get out of my dentures coz it making me depressed. It looks so unnatural and its very discomforting. I havent smile or laugh much ever since and have been avoiding conversations. It's pathetic isnt it? hehe.

I have already asked a dentist about it, and she told me that she will have to put bridges and then crowns on me. I didnt quiet get it, and didnt bother to ask much too(we talked over the phone). She also has given me a price quote and it's pretty expensive so I didnt bother appearing till I have the money.

Anyways, what do I really need to get my teeth fixed? Is crowns/veneers/bridge an option for me?

Thanks

Veneers are out, you have to have teeth to put veneers onto.

A permanent bridge would work, the three false teeth are attached to the two teeth on either side of the gap using crowns on those teeth, you do need to be careful with hygiene anytime you have a permanent crown as it is not easy to clean under the crown but you must or food gathers there and can infect your gums. The bridge is color matched to your natural teeth, usually for front teeth the bridge is porcelain, which is brittle so you need to be very careful to avoid damaging the porcelain, like chew ice or biting something hard like peanut brittle etc. The last bridge I got cost me four thousand dollars and lasted fifteen years before it fractured and I had to have it replaced. Which I opted not to as now the same bridge would cost me seven thousand dollars. But mine is in the back and not visible.

The only other option I can think of is implants. They have developed teeth that can literally be implanted into the jaw with screws, very expensive and sometimes rejected by the body.
Reply:crowns are for when the base of the tooth is there

veneers are for when the tooth is rotten or ugly or weird looking

bridges are a way to put some permanent fake teeth between some good ones, they do have to drill away some of the good ones on each side to attach them, then it can be hard to clean under and around them.

I bet its worth it.

I had to get a crown once 10 years ago, I read a stack of books by dentists at that point. Even if you didn't care how it looks, its still worth getting them fixed. Cheaper and more comfy than dentures, which will be your option when they fall out like dominoes. The hippie dentists said, temp fillings or teeth were ok till you could afford it, otherwise all the dentists said that.
Reply:anything that will replace three missing teeth up front gonna be costly.

first option is a bridge. They will have to put two crowns on each side of the hole =4 plus 3 missing teeth =7 unit bridge... you looking at about 7K investment and 4 teeth that are going to be ground down for the crowns to support the bridge. In a future they might decay or fracture and the bridge will need to be replaced.

second option are implants. for 3 implants you might end up paying about 6K. The advantage is they are single standing, independent, natural looking teeth. You not gonna jeopardize other 4 teeth and the success rate with implant is better than bridges. the healing takes 6 months. Find yourself a good dentist if you are serious about replacing your denture.

Good luck.
Reply:Alkak gave a very good answer. Keep in mind, this is an investment that will last a very long time if done by a qualified dentist. Yes, implants are expensive, but if it lasts a lifetime, the value is there. How many cars last that long?
Reply:I have implants ... it is worth the extra money. The implant also acts as a "root" and will prevent bone loss in the jaw (which is what happens when a tooth is missing.. the bone is resorbed).

It is the cadillac of tooth replacement options.

If cost is a consideration, inquire at a local school of dentistry. I had my implants done at a university which had a "student" clinic. The price was half that of a local practitioner, and I must say, I am very pleased with the result. They did a great job.
Reply:I would go with an implant. They would be the most natural looking since we are talking about your front teeth! Then you can smile :)

I'm getting my braces off in 2 1/2 hours...and I'm getting veneers. Does it hurt?

In 2 1/2 hours, I'm going to be in the orthodontist chair and I'm going to get my braces off...then I'm getting veneers. Does getting the braces off hurt, or does getting the veneers on hurt?

I'm getting my braces off in 2 1/2 hours...and I'm getting veneers. Does it hurt?
Why are you getting veneers if you've had braces? Getting your braces off does not hurt, but it may be a little uncomfortable when they take the back bracket off.(the ring that is wrapped around your back teeth).
Reply:it makes your teeth really sore. but the retaniar does not hurt it the in shape of yuor teeth. but if u wear it too long your teeth kinda hurt. i got my braces off last year.

good luck!! :)
Reply:I'm not sure about veneers, but I have had braces on and off twice (they claimed that they didn't want me to have them on too long because some of my teeth were still growing in, so they thought it would be better for me to experience having braces twice) but anyway, getting off braces doesn't really hurt, they sort of use this clamp to Pop them off, and that doesn't necessarily hurt, it just feels awkward because you kinda feel like your tooth might go with it, but it won't I promise! lol And then they have to take off the cement and that's not bad, it just sometimes get on your tongue and its gross. So none of it hurts, it just may feel different and awkward than anything they've ever done to you for your braces.

Good luck!
Reply:If you have had braces then I'm sure u will be ayight. I just wen tto the orthdontist yesterday %26amp; they took off one of my brackets %26amp; moved it on the tooth. When they took the bracket off it didn't hurt, but when they buffed the tooth to get the glue off it kinda felt weird, but not pain just a little sensitivity. I have no clue about veneers... Good luck!!

How may i convince my parents to let me get veneers?

i do have braces, but my orthodonist messed up my two front teeth, and i am so unhappy with them. there's also a gap at the top or my two front teeth. i've been thinking about getting four veneers in the front. does anyone have the same problem?

How may i convince my parents to let me get veneers?
Don't do it !!!! They will look lame and fake in time... Just grow up and give it time.. Or do the braces again! it's never too late, I had them when i was 26 yrs old...
Reply:no, but i know they are very expensve

a lot of insurance companies don't cover veneers, because they are considered to be a cosmetic procedure
Reply:Most likely the reason they won't do it is because they just spent $4000.00 or more for the braces.....they cannot afford to spend another $5000.00 for veneers.

Get a job and pay for them yourself, then they have no say in the matter and you won't be a selfish brat the rest of your life.
Reply:They are not essential to your well being, get a job and pay for them yourself.
Reply:Please have your own teeth. They can be corrected just go and see a good dentist. To have veneers you will have to loos half of your teeth and your gums may also get discoloured.

Teeth play the most important part regarding the beauty. Fake teeth can be spotted from the distance as they don't have that sparkly shine as natural teeth. If you are going to have veneers then all of your life you will have to be careful with what you eat as this things may come of or brake.
Reply:if they are willing to do it, just ask them, if it is only the 2 front teeth why do you need 4 veneers

just to do two its going to cost about 2000 dollars. i have answered several questions and said that i do not like lumineers by cerinate, however this case would probably be a case where i would possibly recommend them, since you are so young. consult your dentist and inquire about them
Reply:It's always better to keep your teeth natural - veneers as a last resort.

You say you "have braces", can we assume the braces haven't come off yet? A gap between the two front teeth is not an acceptable result. Your orthodontist should be committed to finishing so that there is no gap.

Veneers are good for changing the shape or length of your teeth. Filling a gap is best done with movement, but if veneers are done, 4 or even 6 is best so that all the front teeth match and good proportion is maintained.

Most dentists would prefer not to remove healthy tooth structure on a teen. It is possible to cause problems which result in a root canal. Do you really want that?
Reply:If your orthodontic treatment is not yet over, you can always discuss your esthetic concerns with your dentist. He/She will have the best solution for the teeth you feel 'messed up'. Since teeth veneers fall in cosmetic category, is the reason that insurance does not cover/reimburse. This is an avoidable expense which should or must be put off. It is equally important for you to grow up and understand this aspect. Your parents will not delay if at all you needed root canal treatment and crowns; if need be, they will beg and borrow for your healthy smile. If you do not allow space to your parents you cannot expect to be a good parent yourself.

I need help deciding whether to get invisalign or porcelain veneers?

if i get invisalign i have to wear it for 9 months. if i get porcelain veneers i think i might feel fake. i have a gap that i really don't like and would like to change since it's my senior year. can someone help me?

I need help deciding whether to get invisalign or porcelain veneers?
Go for porcelain veneers for a quick fix and long term solution, particularly if you do not have unesthetic crookedness. If you do all the visible teeth nobody would know you have fake teeth, and would rather compliment on your pearly smile. Cost factor is in your domain anyway! Look for affordable dental care smile designing treatment.
Reply:Hey I hope u are doing well on your senior year. I see this a lot in my practice, and I have to tell you it depends on the urgency. In my opinion you are really young to have venners unless it is absolutely necessary, and your teeth are damaging your public appearance and work relations. Veneers also remove some tooth enamel which u will never get back, and even though they are going to last a very long time, you may need to replace them from time to time. Invisalign is a good option for minor movements and usually we get a really positive result. You will not be shaving any tooth and you will be aligning them properly. Now in some cases I cannot fix the problem with invisalign becasue of jaw discrepancies, but thats a dentist problem. I hope I gave you enough information to make an informative choice, hope you are happy with the end result.

Under what circumstances would dental insurance cover the cost of veneers?

Since it's cosmetic, I heard that insurance doesn't foot the bill. But if the need for veneers goes beyond cosmetic, how does one qualify for insurance to cover some/all?

Under what circumstances would dental insurance cover the cost of veneers?
Insurance will pay a portion of porcelain restorations if there is decay or broken parts of a front tooth (usually 50%).

If they are purely cosmetic and no clinical reason exists, you will not have any insurance benefit. Good quality veneers cost at least $1000 each.

It would be a good idea to have your dental office pre-authorize the treatment with your insurance company. They will send x-rays and other documentation showing the underwriters why there is a need for coverage of the tooth.
Reply:INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER VENEERS. INSURANCE COVERS CROWN, WHICH CAN BE PORCELAIN. THEY HAVE FINANCING FOR VENEERS.....WHICH COST AROUND $650 PER VENEER.
Reply:Needing veneers? I don't think there is such a thing. Either call your insurance company or talk to your dentist's office.

How much will it cost to get six porcelain dental veneers?

I live in Dallas Texas. I would like to know how much is the average cost to get six porcelain dental veneers?

How much will it cost to get six porcelain dental veneers?
It depends on where you are and the dentist's general perception of fees. You can expect porcelain veneers to cost from about $700-to-$1,000 each in most offices. Some are a little less and some are a lot more.

A good average in the US for 6 veneers would be $4-6,000.
Reply:You might actually go ask if anyone has a good dentist in the travel section under "Dallas." Report It

Reply:I just did 6 veneers for a patient and the bill was very close to $4000.00. That is in BC Canada. They looked awesome!

Invisalign is really cool. I've had a friend had it done and his teeth look great. Plus, you couldn't really see anything unless you got really close to look.
Reply:Be very careful with whatever you choose, all the porcelin veneers I have seen look so fake. Get whatever you feel comfortable with. Good luck.

In the long run, what happens to the gums surrounding veneers and dental implants?

I've heard that gums do not fair well on and around artificial teeth. With an implant(s) and a crown(s), would the gums be expected to recede much more significantly than the gums surrounding natural teeth?

Is the chance for gum recession greater when a person has veneers?

In the long run, what happens to the gums surrounding veneers and dental implants?
depends on the materials used. you never want to put a non precious alloy in your mouth. by this i mean you need to request gold substructure on crowns. as for veneers i would say as long as they are done properly you shouldn't have a problem. if this is a concern, i would stay away from so called no prep veneers, i have read articles that say they can cause tissue recession, usually not that much but because they will be slightly thicker at the gumline, the gums will naturally pull away from that area

What's the best product or solution to clean veneers?

I know you can't whiten veneers, but mine are not as white as they used to be probably mostly because of coffee stains. What's the best product for this? Thanks

What's the best product or solution to clean veneers?
Are you sure you have veneers or could it possibly be bonding? Veneers should not discolor. Bonding on the other hand will stain over time and coffee along with many other foods and drinks can cause it.

You really don't want to mess around with any products or solutions in your mouth, unless specified by your Dr. I think toothpaste is your best option.

You may want to check with your dentist to find out if you have bonding or veneers and if the staining really bothers you, you could check with the dentist to see what options are available to you.
Reply:brush a few times a day esp. after drinking coffee, floss once a day, see a dentist

What do sealents do for your teeth? What are veneers? How do they put them on your teeth?

I'm thinking about getting sealents because i just had my third cavity filled, and it makes me mad that im getting cavities, because i take really good care of my teeth.

so what are the benifits of sealents, but im not completely sure of what they are. whats the difference between them and veneers?

will sealents help prevent cavities? is it worth it to get them? how do they put them on? my dentist said something about drilling... but i could have been mistaken.

What do sealents do for your teeth? What are veneers? How do they put them on your teeth?
A dental sealant is a thin plastic film painted on the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars (the teeth directly in front of the molars). Sealants have been shown to be highly effective in the prevention of cavities. They were developed through dental research in the 1950s and first became available commercially in the early 1970s. The first sealant was accepted by the American Dental Association Council on Dental Therapeutics in 1972.

How effective are sealants?

Scientific studies have proven that properly applied sealants are 100 percent effective in protecting the tooth surfaces from caries. Because sealants act as a physical barrier to decay, protection is determined by the sealants' ability to adhere to the tooth. As long as the sealant remains intact, small food particles and bacteria that cause cavities cannot penetrate through or around a sealant. In fact, research has shown that sealants actually stop cavities when placed on top of a slightly decayed tooth by sealing off the supply of nutrients to the bacteria that causes a cavity. Sealant protection is reduced or lost when part or all of the bond between the tooth and sealant is broken. However, clinical studies have shown that teeth that have lost sealants are no more susceptible to tooth decay than teeth that were never sealed.

How are sealants applied?

Sealant application involves cleaning the surface of the tooth and rinsing the surface to remove all traces of the cleaning agent. An etching solution or gel is applied to the enamel surface of the tooth, including the pits and grooves. After 15 seconds, the solution is thoroughly rinsed away with water. After the site is dried, the sealant material is applied and allowed to harden by using a special curing light. Other sealants are applied and allowed to harden much the same way nail polish is applied to fingernails. Sealant treatment is painless and could take anywhere from five to 45 minutes to apply, depending on how many teeth need to be sealed. Sealants must be applied properly for good retention.

How long will a sealant last?

Sealants should last five years, but can last as long as 10 years. One study reported that seven years after application, an impressive 49 percent of treated teeth were still completely covered. Sealants should not be considered permanent. Regular dental check-ups are necessary to monitor the sealants' bond to the tooth.

Who should receive sealant treatment?

Children, because they have newly erupted, permanent teeth, receive the greatest benefit from sealants. The chewing surfaces of a child's teeth are most susceptible to cavities and the least benefitted by fluoride. Surveys show that approximately two-thirds of all cavities occur in the narrow pits and grooves of a child's newly erupted teeth because food particles and bacteria cannot be cleaned out. Other patients also can benefit from sealant placement, such as those who have existing pits and grooves susceptible to decay. Research has shown that almost everybody has a 95 percent chance of eventually experiencing cavities in the pits and grooves of their teeth.

Are sealants covered by insurance?

Although insurance benefits for sealant procedures have increased considerably, coverage is still minimal. The trend is toward expanded coverage of this benefit, especially as companies start to realize that sealants are a proven preventive technique. This preventive measure can help reduce future dental expenses and protect the teeth from more aggressive forms of treatment.

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

What Types of Problems Do Dental Veneers Fix?

Veneers are routinely used to fix:

Teeth that are discolored – either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth

Teeth that are worn down

Teeth that are chipped or broken

Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)

Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)

What's the Procedure for Getting a Dental Veneer?

The procedure usually requires three trips to the dentist – one for a consultation and two to make and apply the veneers. One tooth or many teeth can simultaneously undergo the veneering process described below.

Diagnosis and treatment planning. This first step involves active participation between you and your dentist. Explain to your dentist the result that you are trying to achieve. During this appointment your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure dental veneers are appropriate for you and discuss what the procedure will involve and some of its limitations. He or she also may take X-rays and possibly make impressions of your mouth and teeth.

Preparation. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, your dentist will remove about ½ millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Before trimming off the enamel, you and your dentist will decide the need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, your dentist will make a model or impression of your tooth. This model is sent out to a dental laboratory, which in turn constructs your veneer. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. For very unsightly teeth, temporary dental veneers can be placed for an additional cost.

Bonding. Before the dental veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, your dentist will temporarily place it on your tooth to examine its fit and color. He or she will repeatedly remove and trim the veneer as needed to achieve the proper fit; the veneer color can be adjusted with the shade of cement to be used. Next, to prepare your tooth to receive the veneer, your tooth will be cleaned, polished and etched – which roughens the tooth to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement is applied to the veneer and the veneer is then placed on your tooth. Once properly position on the tooth, your dentist will apply a special light beam to the dental veneer, which activates chemicals in the cement causing it to harden or cure very quickly. The final steps involve removing any excess cement, evaluating your bite and making any final adjustments in the veneer as necessary. Your dentist may ask you to return for a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks to check how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to once again examine the veneer's placement.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Veneers?

Veneers offer the following advantages:

They provide a natural tooth appearance.

Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well.

Porcelain veneers are stain resistant.

The color of a porcelain veneer can be selected such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter.

Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth's color and shape-veneers generally don't require the extensive shaping prior to the procedure that crowns do, yet offer a stronger, more aesthetic alternative to bonding.

What Are the Disadvantages of Dental Veneers?

The downside to dental veneers include:

The process is not reversible.

Veneers are more costly than composite resin bonding.

Veneers are usually not repairable should they chip or crack.

Because enamel has been removed, your tooth may become more sensitive to hot and cold foods and beverages.

Veneers may not exactly match the color of your other teeth. Also, the veneer's color cannot be altered once in place. If you plan on whitening your teeth, you need to do so before getting veneers.

Though not likely, veneers can dislodge and fall off. To minimize the chance of this occurring, do not bite your nails; chew on pencils, ice, or other hard objects; or otherwise put pressure on your teeth.

Teeth with veneers can still experience decay, possibly necessitating full coverage of the tooth with a crown.

Veneers are not a good choice for individuals with unhealthy teeth (for example, those with decay or active periodontal disease), weakened teeth (as a result of decay, fracture, large dental fillings) or for those who have an inadequate amount of existing enamel on the tooth surface.

Individuals who clench and grind their teeth are poor candidates for porcelain veneers, as these activities can cause the veneers to crack or chip.

How Long Do Dental Veneers Last?

Veneers generally last between 5 and 10 years. After this time, the veneers would need to be replaced.

Do Dental Veneers Require Special Care?

No. Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices including brushing and flossing as you normally would.

Even though porcelain veneers resist stains, your dentist may recommend that you avoid stain-causing foods and beverages (for example, coffee, tea or red wine).

Are There Alternatives to Dental Veneers?

Yes, bondings and crowns. Veneers offer a nice intermediate option. Veneers may be best suited for individuals who want to change the shape of their teeth more than just a little bit-as is done with bonding-but not enough to require a crown.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

Costs vary depending on what part of the country you live in and on the extent of your procedure. Generally, veneers range in cost from $500 to $1300 per tooth. The cost of veneers is not generally covered by insurance. To be certain, check with your specific dental insurance company.

Reply:Sealants are comprised of a liquid material 'painted' onto the biting surface of molars. The fluid fills in the tiny wrinkles on your teeth so that bacteria doesn't get in there and hide from your toothbrush bristles. The liquid is cured with a light to make it hard and stick to your teeth.

Veneers are a facing, much like a press-on fingernail. It coveres most of a tooth (usually a front-tooth) and is not placed to prevent cavities. Veneers are done to change the shape and color of a tooth, usually to make your smile look nice.

Sealants are usually done on children, but occasionally they can be done on adults. If drilling is involved, it's a cavity and decay has already affected the tooth.
Reply:a sealant is like a coat of varnish on a piece of wood. Its a clear, very thin, but protective coating.

A veneer replaces a portion of your tooth with a very hard substance that is made to match the color of the rest of your teeth. They can be used to dramatically whiten dingy teeth, or more commonly, to repair chips or cracks on front teeth (when the damage is not sever enough to require a crown.

Sealant is pretty common, its given to most kids once they have their permanent teeth (in the US, at least).

Veneers are usually used to repair a cosmetic problem of some sort. (and unfortunately, that means insurance is NOT likely to pay for it.)
