If you get veneers put in, how does that work exactly? And do they have to give you a shot or not? If I wanna get a small chip fixed, will they actually like file the tooth down, to even out the tooth and make the chip go away or will just give u a veneer? Or is it up to you?
If you get veneers?
The procedure to prepare your teeth for veneers is as follows:
1. You will first be given a local anesthesia.
2. An impression may be taken for temp veneer.
3. The front of your tooth will be prepped for the veneer. ( The front and bottom or chewing edge of your tooth will be cut and shaped. )
4. An impression will be taken to be sent to the lab for final veneer.
In a few weeks your perm. veneer or veneer's will be ready and cemented.
This is not a painful procedure.
You may have other options, depending on the size of the chip.
For a small chip that is hard to see and is more annoying than an asthetic problem, you could just have the option of having the tooth filed a bit.
For a large chip you may be looking at a crown rather than a veneer. A crown will be used to ensure the strength of you natural tooth.
A cheaper option for a larger chip would be bonding. This is not as strong as a crown, but will be a temporary fix. :)
Veneers are usually used for asthetic purposes. Such as an uneven smile or discolored teeth.
Reply:i think they can fill in the chip so I don't think u would need veneers
Reply:the dentist may just polish away the chip or fill it with tooth-colored material.
